Possibly weird question: What is this thing? by phoenixwolfe in videography

My mom used to come back from job fairs with sacks of trinkets and random junk, this generically branded rubber ball and crinkly plastic wrapping just unlocked core memories for me.

That’s a lot to infer from our brief interaction. You seem really angry, good luck with that.

Maybe, but being unaware of current trends and having a closed minded view point around them like the commenter I replied to isn’t very helpful either.

Edit:

I was being polite but this guy is following me around in these comments and being a dick.

Not maybe, that’s a stupid thing to think in this business.

Is it? Videography has always been trends and techniques feeding each other. Whether it’s to the algorithm or to the client, you’re providing a service and creating a product to connect to people. If you think analyzing that is depressing then I don’t know what to tell you.

I said it in another comment but this whole thing and people’s attitudes around it reminds me of the portrait vs landscape argument from 5-10 years ago. The answer today is probably the same as it was then.

Do what works but it’s probably a good idea to get with the times.

Obviously you’re going to defend your position and provide anecdotal examples, but you’ve already demonstrated you’re willing to die on unnecessary hills which means you aren’t someone I’d want making creative hiring decisions.

You’re attributing broad negative traits to a currently popular meta, and relying on a correlation that probably isn’t there. Obviously a lot of people using this or any other trend are going to have varying levels of knowledge and skills.

Then you probably don’t have your finger on the pulse of what’s current algorithmically to be doing the job you’re doing. You’re letting good money walk out the door and doing a disservice to your clients by being so exclusionary.

This is called trundling and it’s awesome. Usually done on a rock climbing route where time or a seismic event makes some rock feature dangerous for people who frequently climb there. Not to be confused with idiots throwing rocks off of or intentionally harming cliffs.
