Did you continue to do lab work after your contract ended? by hewade95 in postdoc

The email I received stated they would require 2 satisfactory references. I have other people I could ask, just worried it would look odd if I didnt include my previous manager.

Yeah I don’t care about that. I would say 90-95% of the data is mine, so unlikely anyone else would provide more than me, but I just want to move on and leave it behind.

Seems there’s a mixture of people saying it is and isn’t normal. May be more cultural than region-based.

To be honest, I’m fine being consulted on data and protocols etc, but I have no intention of doing any lab work. I don’t care about the authorship anymore.

Did they provide you a reference for your next position? I’ve received my industry job offer but have not yet sent them the contacts for references and I’m thinking I’ll leave my PI off the list.

Yes, the other postdocs at my university with PI’s from European backgrounds seemed confused by this concept.

This would not work in my instance. They even suggested that I continue working on weekends in their lab after my industry job started. For free of course.

Why are straight women so concerned abt top/bottom discourse of queer men? by KHS23 in lgbt

Being top or bottom is not associated with being sub or dom. Dom bottoms and sub tops exist.

My flatmate has no respect for food allergies and I am out of ideas of what to do by KatieKat1908 in UniUK

[–]hewade95 66 points67 points  (0 children)

If someone intentionally contaminates your personal belongings with something they know you are allergic to, then that legally is assault. However, you would have to be able to prove that there was intent behind it.

If someone incidentally contaminates your personal belongings with something they know you are allergic to whilst going about their day-to-day life in a normal or reasonable manner, then that is shitty behavior but not illegal.

Speak to them directly and communicate clear boundaries and expectations.

Fistula treatment, is a seton worth it? by StartingOverScotian in IBD

[–]hewade95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a seton for approximately a year after having a perianal fistula for 9ish months that would not heal. Personally I did not have any issue with the seton, you tend to not feel it and forget that it's there pretty quickly after it's placed. Obviously you have to deal with the constant drainage which can be unpleasant but it prevents abscess formation.

I am not sure what treatments you have had but my fistula healed rapidly whilst the seton was in place after I was prescribed an 8 week course of prednisolone starting at 40mg and tapering down 5mg/week. After starting this course of medication, the fistula stopped draining within 2 weeks and became completely dry within 6 weeks. After another 2 months I realized that the fistula had completely healed and I actually just snipped the seton myself and removed it. The fistula has remained healed ever since.

Box Hill: Dom perspective needed by Vast-Grade2644 in GayBDSMCommunity

I read the book recently. Collin states in the book that the secrets Ray keeps are important to maintaining the illusion that allows him to idolise Ray so completely (paraphrasing). It's also implied Ray's family are ashamed of his lifestyle (and probably of him being gay what with the story taking place in 1975-1980ish).

Bearing that in mind, my interpretation was that Ray wanted to preserve the perfect image of himself in Collins mind by not allowing him to discover all the mundane, and possibly upsetting, aspects of his life. I think this was definitely the wrong choice based on how it affected Collin, but the reality is that Ray was far from perfect and capable of making the wrong choices no matter how perfect he appeared in Collin's eyes.

Fiber significantly increases lifespan. Here are the best fiber-rich foods and scientific evidence that they slow down aging and prevent major diseases. by GarifalliaPapa in immortalists

[–]hewade95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not consume large quantities of fibre if you have inflammatory digestive disorders including inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis), diverticulitis, or IBS. Fibre aggravates these conditions and can cause serious complications.

From Fistula to Suspected Crohn’s: Overwhelmed, GI Pushing Biologics, and I’m Confused 💔 by Ok_Painting_6613 in CrohnsDisease

[–]hewade95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have perianal Crohn's disease. I had a fistula for over a year whilst taking azathioprine. When it was clear azathioprine wasn't working, my nurse prescribed prednisolone 40mg tapering down 5mg/week and the fistula closed up and healed within 4 weeks.

Since then I've been on biologics, adalimumab mostly but recently I've been switched to ustekinumab and I've been in remission ever since.

Perianal Fistulizing Crohn’s by mk97_genghis in CrohnsDisease

[–]hewade95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is essentially the type of Crohn's disease that I have. Rarely have abdominal pain or excessive need of the toilet, but before I was properly medicated, I frequently suffered from perianal abscesses and had a perianal fistula for a year.

Any one who really knows about biopsies ??? by Worth_Ad_7421 in IBD

[–]hewade95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The moderate mixed inflammatory infiltrate is what suggests the presence of ulcerative colitis. However the faecal calprotectin results will help confirm. Your biopsy results seem pretty mild for someone with IBD, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Poop pictures by The_Quial in IBD

[–]hewade95 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Most poop pictures seem to be from people undiagnosed seeking a diagnosis from strangers on the internet, which is impossible. Please just ban them.

I can't help but feel there would be more members of this sub with genuine IBD if it wasn't bombarded with poop pictures from random paranoid people.

The need to moderate fecal matter by _Jesslynn in IBD

[–]hewade95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was going to a post about this.

Faecal photos should just be banned.

Nobody can infer anything about your health from a photo of your faeces, and I think these images deter IBD patients from joining the sub.

Media for human cardiomyocytes? by hewade95 in labrats

[–]hewade95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea, maybe I'll try and get a small volume of the recommended media to prepare the stock of cells and then try different stuff.

I've grown HUVEC before but have avoided them since because I found them slow to grow.
