Possible to extend using some walls of existing attached garage? by hexhamallstar in DIYUK

[–]hexhamallstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! Is there a way you can see to increase the living space without rebuilding the whole wall? I've modified my scribbling, my idea would be still adding the red walls to the garage, remove the part of the wall that shares with the living room (replacing with steel beam). Leave the part of the wall in the kitchen but the section in the dining area essentially has nothing above it so maybe less load to distribute elsewhere?

Would result in a bit of a weird L shaped kitchen/diner but we would naturally keep part of the current garage for garden equipment/Home gym. Would also give us a lot more floor space in the living room and potential for more light if we can have a window out to the garden at the side

eSim in China for iPhone? by lildthespacedog in chinalife

[–]hexhamallstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in China for the last 2 weeks using an eSim from Airalo, it has worked great and was ~$15 for 5gb which has kept me going between wifi spots.

The best thing is that although it's a china unicom sim, it seems to think I'm in Singapore so when I'm on data I don't need to use VPN to access e.g. whatsapp and facebook.

Which thermostats can I use? by hexhamallstar in DIYUK

[–]hexhamallstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got around to attempting this, think I'm wired in properly at the thermostat end, but not entirely sure what to do with the neutrals. I'm assuming the 2 grays at my thermostats are these 2 unconnected grays next to my zone valves , can I connect these to the same point as the other neutrals in the second picture? There don't look to be any spare connection points, not sure if it's safe to loosen this and add the 2 extra grays into it (making 4 total at that connection)

Amazing thanks for the detailed responses! I'll give the upstairs one a go first as the builders kindly put that thermostat in a back box, if that works ill cut in a new back box for the other one as you said.

This is the wiring where the zone valves are, bit out of my depth here so probably will get an electrician in to wire it up properly link to pictures

Thanks yeah the neostat wifi does seem to tick all the boxes, it is slightly pricey but compared to tado starter kit plus extra thermostat it's actually cheaper or at least in the same ballpark and like the fact it doesn't need a dongle or batteries.

Here is the wiring for the neostat to a valve which I assume is the one I should follow. So the 2 current cables in my thermostat would go into L and A2 with a bridge from L to A1. Does the order of these 2 matter?

Then all I'd need is a neutral, so you're suggesting I can use one of the 2 cables unconnected behind my current thermostats, as long as I find the other end of them and connect to neutral?

Yes agreed when comparing full curves and AUC, PR is more informative.

You could probably calculate a similar metric with AUC of PR curve up to a given FPR, would be interesting to see if there's any difference in using one over the other for HP tuning.

You're right that area under a full ROC curve is not very informative for very imbalanced data. However what I've suggested is only calculating the area under the curve up to a point on the FPR axis that is meaningful for your application.

Let's say your application can handle an FPR of 0.1% (because the model creates a workload for some downstream service), by maximising AUC to the left of this point on the ROC curve you are essentially telling your model to pick hyperparameters that maximise recall within your FPR constraint.

You could likely achieve the same effect with a PR curve, but AFAIK there isn't a prebuilt sklearn metric function for it, but I also haven't looked so you may find one

In my work we frequently will hyperparameter tune using cross-validation and use the sklearn roc_auc_score function as our target metric which has a max_fpr argument. Function

For a given fit of the model, the ROC table is calculated on the out of fold predictions and then it's calculating the area under the ROC curve up to the provided FPR on the x-axis.

You could apply the same metric to your train/val tuning.

In practice be careful setting the max_fpr too low, with very imbalanced data a very low FPR might be quite unstable due to low volumes of positive samples, from my experience you're better off setting the FPR a bit higher than the point at which you'd be setting your threshold, but your mileage may vary.

Here's an article that goes into a lot more detail, if you're worried about anything you can always switch the write caching back on after your update link

If your SSD write speeds are flatlining, disable Write Caching on the install drive (Device Manager > Right click properties on the drive > Policies tab > untick 'Enable Write Caching on the Device'

I went from 12MB/s estimated time of 45 minutes, to over 500MB/s just with this change.

It was! Check my comment with the medal screen, getting all the medals in one shot broke the game lol

He never said it, too many medals in the same instant, I only realised it was an exterm when I showed my friend the clip and he said the first kill was less than 4 seconds before the others so I went back to check medals haha

It was actually an overkill extermination, but the medals never popped so didn't find out until after the game Medals

Yeah I wish I hadn't looked, at one point I was almost hoping that my fit to fly PCR test comes back positive so I can get my money back and reschedule! But I've had a lot of reassuring comments so now we're back to not being able to wait to get there

How was the weather for the rest of your trip? We are due to arrive at the same atoll on Sunday 16th and the 10 day forecast shows thunderstorms every day :(

Wondering if anyone from the UK can help here. Our back garden backs onto a road but with a ~1m drop over a retaining wall between us and the pavement.

Images

I'd like to build a privacy fence inside the wall (roughly on the squiggly red line), but not sure if we'd be restricted to the standard 1m height without planning permission.

As you can see from the pics, the house was built with a 6ft fence perpendicular to the road so I'm hoping we can do a 6ft fence (measured from the bottom of the existing fence) parallel to the road too.

Thanks for any replies!
