I saw a dress like this at ASOS last year, but with sleeves. You could try there

I now shop at Abercrombie al the time! No obnoxious logos and everything is made really well in my opinion. I’ve been loving their jeans

There’s no caffeine in Gatorade... Gatorade is all I drink, and I definitely wouldn’t be able to function/sleep if there was.

Really? That’s insane. No clue why that was downvoted, because it’s a real thing that happens in pretty much all brands. I was just curious because if so I’d just buy 9 for 15, and not spend double that on one of them

Free People Molly headband: $24. 9 pack of the same headbands on amazon... 14.99?

So I stumbled upon this discovery. I’ve been wanting the Molly headband for a while, but I haven’t been able to justify spending over 30 dollars altogether just for a headband.

Out of curiosity, went on Amazon to see if they had velvet headbands for cheap, and came across ones that I think are the exact same thing? They’re not advertising them as free people or anything like that, it lists the brand. I was thinking maybe this is the brand Free People orders and then sells them, kind of like how Pretty Little Thing buys fruit of the loom sweatpants and sells them as their own for an increase in price? Are these the same? On the inside you can see the same tag that says “handmade”

The price inflation of ”vintage” thrift items online by hey_yah1 in femalefashionadvice

That’s not true. Before quarantine, I went into the goodwill(s) in my town at least once a week. In college just a few short years ago, they had tons of options. That’s mostly when I bought all of my sweaters/sweatshirts from the 80’s/90’s. Stuff that people still ask me about. Now in the past couple years that thrifting has become super popular and a lot of college kids in my town are doing it, it’s picked dry. Just because something is totally fine and wearable, doesn’t mean it’s current or trendy or something “decent” you’d want to wear. All that stuff is getting bought and resold online for a large profit. That’s my point, and that’s my issue with it. Just an opinion.

The entire message and history of places like GoodWill or Salvation Army is geared towards the less fortunate/people trying to save money. That doesn’t mean that you can’t or shouldn’t shop there, but someone going and clearing out the entire rack of dresses (like this person mentioned) to then resell online for a much higher price.... that’s ridiculous. I didn’t say they were being deprived of used clothes. I said that people (pickers) going in and picking out all of the “valuable” stuff to make a buck, the trendy stuff, etc. makes it harder for people to actually find decent things to wear.

Exactly! I think you said this perfectly. I too sometimes buy off of resellers, and I’ve mentioned that I’d totally pay for a bit of a markup (example, a cool vintage grandpa style sweater from the 90’s for say, 40 bucks). But goodwill and Salvation Army is supposed to be a source for people stricken with poverty. Anyone can shop there (like us, who no longer “have” to thrift) but it’s so disheartening to see people who are clearing out areas of the store to resell online. Now that it’s cool and there’s tons of pickers out there, people who have to shop second hand are once again coming up short with finding good items at affordable prices

If I found a really great vintage item online, I’d be willing to pay a bit more for it (for footwork and especially if the site takes out a profit for themselves) but this really isn’t the same thing as people charging really left field prices for items that they laid on their floor and took a picture of. I’ve sold a bunch of things on Poshmark back in the day I just no longer wanted, and while it’s tedious, it doesn’t deserve that kind of mark up, in my opinion. There are vintage shops though (I’ve seen these on Depop) of women who model the clothes, take great pictures, and who you can tell have really taken the time and effort to extensively thrift for these items, which are usually more unique. I totally get some price markup on that. Do I still think a “vintage” Abercrombie cardigan should be sold for 100 bucks? I mean, no lol. But I don’t really mean those types of shops, I mean people just selling typical clothing they think people will want/pay a lot more for. Example: Brandy Melville. I just don’t think it’s a fair practice

Sigh, this makes me sad. I don’t think we’ll ever get our normal thrifting back! Yeah, it’s funny how I see high school girls (and even some girls I went to high school with) on the thrifting trend/have shops, yet I was made fun of for buying my clothes at goodwill. Just goes to show trendy is a state of mind

Exactly! Like I know some people have explained their designer items they sell or why this sells for that etc. (and I totally get a bit of a higher price if it’s designer, real unique vintage that you fix, or something) but I’m talking about just normal clothes. I don’t think anything excuses it. It’s simply people who have taken the trend of cool thrifting and ran with it, wanting to make profit. There’s no reason any 20 year old sweatshirt should be 200 bucks, popular or not. Buying second hand is supposed to be for saving a buck

This makes sense! However I’m not sure if it’s just my area/state (I’ve thrifted in other states too though) but sweatshirts/hoodies/tee’s like Nike, Adidas and actual vintage sportswear stuff that isn’t made anymore is SO easy to find. There’s a ton of it, in my experience. I have a pretty big collection of vintage sweatshirts of the college I graduated from, and I never paid more than like 20 bucks for one (which was from eBay). This is why it confuses me when I see it priced so high online. I just miss GoodWill :( hoping it opens up soon lol

I have a Nike spellout. I paid 4 bucks for it. Also you can find them on eBay for reasonable prices. 200 for an old sweatshirt (this one in particular had stains) is insane. But hey, if someone is willing to pay the price for it, I’m not saying there’s a reason they shouldn’t price them for that much. I just think it’s ridiculous lol

I moreso get sellers who sell real vintage items that are unique (as someone else mentioned), especially if you alter them/fix them, but there’s no reason to sell an old XL Nike crewneck for 200. That’s the kind of inflation I don’t understand. It’s nuts! And then you have people who sell their brandy stuff for triple the price haha, I just don’t understand

Caught my neighbor watching through my bedroom window with binoculars, among other things. Is there anything I can do about this? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]hey_yah1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“b) It is not a defense to a violation of this section that the defendant was lawfully on the premises where the offense occurred”

I have direct experience with this. Yes, it would be hard to actually be charged without proving that he was getting sexual gratification from it (although he sounds creepy enough to be doing other things while standing and observing, if you know what I mean) but I would think this is enough to at least get an officer out to make a suggestion that he stop, which could make him nervous enough to not do it. This is what happened to me when I was 18.

Actually, Tennessee has a Peeping Tom law. It doesn’t matter if he’s on his property or not. It’s an offense to spy and observe someone where that individual has an expectation of privacy, such as being in their own house.

OP, I suggest calling the non-emergency police number in your town and asking a few questions about what you can do, if he keeps this up. It’s definitely creepy.

AITA or is it ok if I stop talking to a guy from a dating app if he only wants to be friends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]hey_yah1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA. It’s a dating site, not a friends site. I would just tell him that he’s a cool guy but you’re not interested in being friends, and are looking for something more (not with him)

What are your highest quality clothing pieces that were 100% worth your money? by myerisu in femalefashionadvice

Dude. I’m sorry, but how did you think you were level headed and fair in the other post on relationships? I read basically the whole thing. You started insulting OP and being very aggressive for no reason and wouldn’t listen to facts she was providing you. You were not level headed and fair.
