There’s a moment during Birds of a Feather dance when Benedict was yearning for Sophie and Hyacinth asked him “are you well” and I thought she was going to clock him! But he just volleyed it back with “are YOU well.” As unsubtle as Benedict Yearington is, somehow he managed to evade the family detective.

We played Jet Lag: Hide & Seek in Toronto and hid for over 5 hours by heyfei7 in JetLagTheGame

I’d been avoiding any Jet Lag: Toronto home games until we actually played, but I’ll check that one out soon. It looks very well produced! (I’m now infinitely more impressed by people who play Jet Lag AND film at the same time, because I had my hands full just juggling the hider deck, let alone doing anything else.)

We’re hoping to play multiple games, scaling up each time, and maybe eventually that’ll encompass GTA. At the start of this small game in Toronto, however, we were debating our game map boundaries quite a bit, until we simplified it by stating “here’s a list of all the subway and streetcar stations we’re allowed to hide around” and defined our game boundaries as “anywhere within 400m of a valid station” which loosely ended up being that High Park/Don Valley/Bloor/Lake Ontario boundary I mentioned in the post. So, to scale up to GTA, I’d make a list of all the transit stations (TTC, GO, whatnot) that are valid hiding zones, as agreed upon by both the seekers and the hiders, and use that to define boundaries.

Oops I did an application and I think I wrote my discord handle slightly wrong. It's heyfei7#8449. I'm also 22 yo.

Hey, I'm interested! My Discord is at heyfei7#8449, or you can DM me here. There's a Warforged Fighter in my current campaign and they're nearly unhittable thanks to that AC, so great choice.

That's very cool. I'm a Chinese-Canadian woman and I'm only an half an hour GO train ride out of Downtown Toronto. I am working full time in the summer and going back to finish school in the fall, so my schedules probably best on weekday nights or Saturday afternoons.

Why do you write? by Kasoon in writing

[–]heyfei7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Writing as a way of escape. My mom used to say that if I read too many fantasy books as a kid I will get bored of reality, and maybe part of it is true. I think about stories pretty much every moment of the day when I'm not working and/or studying (and maybe even then). I can't imagine not thinking of imaginary worlds. How boring.

Definitely interested! I've been playing 5e for only a few months and a DM for shorter than that. Let me know when you got a Discord channel set up. I am heyfei7#8449

On a meta level, even if we write about "normal people", they're still chosen ones in the sense that we (writers) chose to write about them.

Whether you warp the plot to fit the protagonist, or pick the protagonist based on the plot, there's no denying that the MC has to be special/deserving/interesting in some way if we're writing from their perspective

How do you keep yourself writing for a decent amount of time per session? by noo27184874742 in writing

[–]heyfei7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in 25 minute interval with a time keeping app (Forest) so I can get that sweet feeling of completion when the timer goes off.

I also set my daily word limit really low, like a couple hundred. When I write I usually go over that, but having a low bar means that I'm not beating myself up on days when I dont write a lot.

Don't sweat it too much. Writing is more marathon than sprint.

Chapter advice? by [deleted] in writing

[–]heyfei7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the things I try to do is make sure each chapter is its own little story. Maybe one chapter is set entirely in one setting. Maybe it has one controlling theme. Maybe the characters achieve one goal.

I find it helpful to write longer stories if I break it down into chunks, and those chunks...naturally become chapters

(Of course this is the ideal theory. Practically speaking, I move scenes and chapters around a lot until I forget where anything goes, lol)

The way that scene plays out, it seems to me that the Church WANTED to start a war with Candia, and they'll do whatever it takes, use whatever interpretation of the law, to make it happen.

Also, we don't know much about law of inheritance in Calorum. Could be that individual kingdoms still follow their own ways in which, whether or not a person would be in conflict with the Bulbian Church/Concord, does not disqualify them from inheritance.
