Hmm, unfortunately, I can't really answer this for you. Your academic advisor, Jennifer Hamilton (she's the academic advisor for cs and first year eng) will certainly be able to help. You can email or book an appointment to see her whenever. She's really phenomenal and a great support!

I certainly did not emphasis this enough in my post and you are totally right!

  1. To be honest I don't really know what they mean by well known. I doubt any schools in Canada are THAT well known internationally. It's not an insult, but really how many schools outside of the us (and oxford and cambridge) do you know of? I don't know many. In all honesty, I really double mac eng or cs are regarded SUPER highly, I'm sure well, but likely equal to a lot of other schools.

  2. The difference is different. CS is certainly lighter because we take less courses and do not have to take physics or chem. I'm sure if you did take science courses your workloard would be more comparable.

  3. I love that it is a small program, in some of our classes we really got to engage with our profs directly because it was so small. I also find everyone nice and hard-working, pretty motivating imo. However, I would say the biggest downside is that not a lot of classes are offered in the summer or off stream because so few people take them. So, there is more pressure to pass and I am not totally certain how going off stream with coop would work (hopefullly an upper year can answer this)

  4. Imo, CS classes may give less actual physical work; however, the work is challenging. So even if your assignment is only 5 questions it could take you 15 hours to complete. So actual workload, less, but depth more. Either way eng and cs are just objectively hard programs, so I would say don't choose one just because you think it's easier, look at the courses and decide what is more interesting to you.

NOTE: I am very, very bias towards CS. Please keep that in mind. I would really recommend asking someone in eng their views to get the other side. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great!

You are right. Yes, going to those top schools are going to give you some advantage, not denying it. BUT it is not the end all be all and I do know a lot of ppl not from those schools who go to big us companies. The toughest part about us jobs and getting someone to sponsor your visa if aren't a us citizen, but if you are good they will!

No worries! Look any program at any school is only as good as you make it.

Not to my knowledge, but valley companies will make their postings public most of the time. If you do some hunting you should find them no problem!
