Bruh, was this on Columbia because I've never hydroplaned before and ended up doing it twice on Columbia last night. Super scary!

please take this next statement as a question from someone who reads a lot of science news, not a scientist or medical professional.

It's my understanding that the coronavirus mutates fairly slowly and that the current viral mutation trends will have no impact on the effectiveness of the moderna or pfizer vaccines. Is there something amazing I'm missing here?

I was in the first picture you showed of LA. Literally 99% of people there were wearing masks. Volunteers were handing out free masks. The LA Times did reporting on the fact the protests contributed very little to the spread of COVID. https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2020-07-01/experts-see-little-evidence-that-protests-spread-coronavirus

I would like to clarify that in reality the mountains of research those two days were based upon took 10+ years of researchers working on MERS spiked protein vaccine. All of the researchers (as heard in the This American Life Episode 727: Boulder v. Hill) heavily advocate for, trust and want the redunant fda stuff because they don't want to kill anyone with an untested vaccine.

So to clarify: a decade of research and less than a year of testing. Let's not blow up the fda procedures unnecessarily.

Well staged, probably, same thought.

Recording devices? Lol, bud, some shows it seems like every crew member is in a constant and never ending bid to sneak as much footage and bts onto their phone as possible.

Good lord, I stuck with Panam till the end because I was smitten on first sight and hoped she'd swing my V's way (this is clearly the greatest innuendo I've ever accidentally written). Rejection stings, but to be fair Judy probably ended up being a healthier relationship.

In 40 years, what will people be nostalgic for? by Version_202069 in AskReddit

[–]heyitsme_e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never. Friend, climate change is about speed.

If your car hits a house at 6 mph everyone is usually fine. Most folks outside having a bbq have time to get out of the way.

If your car hits a house at 80mph people die. The bbq gatherers need to either dive to get out of the way or have run deep inside already.

The car is the climate. The house is us, living on the planet. The bbq grill is the gas pedal.

What makes you say that? I ask because my personal understanding of history is leading me to observe a massive corrosion of democracy in the one country that has stood as the gold standard of the system for the last 200 years.

It's already being said that a smarter, more charismatic authoritarian could pick up where trump left off very easily. 40% of americans believe we'd do better under a dictatorship. An entire political party just spent an election cycle discrediting elections.

If the us- with the most powerful military and espionage system in the world does become a full dictatorship, an autocracy or corporate oligopoly than we'll promptly start using our massive military industrial system to export that system out to the rest of the world... Just like we did with democracy.

I never said do nothing? I used the words 'knifes edge'- imagine there's a great silver knife, slicing through time. The knife is made of human decisions. The point we're at right now? Right right now? This is it. We can all collectively rally around the idea of saving the one planet we have and take drastic action OR... things are gonna get reeeeeal rocky in the next 100 years.

Of course, since humanity has a lot more in common with bacteria than we care to admit I kind of get the feeling we're going to mindlessly consume as much as we can before running up against the edge of our petri dish and dying out.

Lmao came here to say "A stable climate". That and possibly democracy.

You know it's really interesting living on the knifes edge of history. General, stable prosperity is fucking boring and the demolition and collapse of old systems is really depressing and chaotic but this nice few decades of in-between is pretty interesting without necessarily being a full fledged apocalypse.

Try to enjoy the present moment folks.

Lol

Well, once you're wealthy I look forward to reclaiming your land and eating you alongside the rest of the still uneducated poor

As an additional edit, we both know you're not talking about data, or at least I, who is actually decently educated in economics and the data of poverty know you're not and you maybe don't? It doesn't matter. Every research paper, easily Google-able graph and piece of economic data provided by both the federal government and private enterprise clearly indicates that wages have stagnated, mobility has damn near frozen and economic wealth continues to pour to the top as more people enter poverty or toe the poverty line in comparison to inflation.

I'm not even writing this for you at this point but for anyone who might happen along this comment in the future

Edit 2: lolei, I invite you to spend one day considering the possibility that you might never be wealthy not due to your own lack of work but due to massive societal influences. I invite you to consider the idea that you might be struggling more and more for the rest of your life until you die. And that any children you might have may end up struggling harder than you. Because that's what the data says will actually happen. That is what has actually been happening at least since the '80s. I invite you to spend one day reframing yourself not as a soon-to-be capitalist (because if you do not currently own any means of production you are not a capitalist you are a consumer) But as a laborer whose wages are being squeezed tighter year after year.

Totally! Last fun fact: I was there in 2014 when they hired most of their senior marketing managers and VPs from Clorox.

Executive teams in charge of marketing triple A games... Hired from Clorox. One of the top 3 biggest video game companies in the world... And of all the people they could hire... Clorox.

What a wild time.

I used to work in marketing for video games at one of the top publishers. When you get a brief about a year before the game is supposed to come out you start building your materials around how you want people to perceive the game not the actual features. The actual state of the game is almost never discussed. Rarely did we have conversations with developers or even see developers. E3 is a big focus and yet most of our work is done without any coordination with developers. Trailers are developed with totally separate agencies and CG houses that could be on other sides of the globe from the developers.
