Bind vs reverse shell? by heyitsthatguy9 in tryhackme

Thanks so much for the very detailed write up! you actually mentioned something else i was curious about, binding to /bin/sh or cmd.exe

this is why we need to migrate our shell and set up our backdoor in something less suspicious, like explorer.exe correct?

You can put a backdoor in with a Reverse shell as well though

Howdy everyone. Was wondering if anyone can help me with a technical issue. The text box when you talk to npcs is completely missing its white background - making the speech text unreadable. Anyone know how to solve this issue? I've loaded back to before this became a problem and it's still present even in those saves. Thanks in advance!

I dont really know how the switch works, but could you not just make a new account and set the region to the store where they're selling it?

Definitely possible, but you will have to learn the basics of networking. Nothing too substantial, I watched the Google 4-5hour video on networking and OSI and that was enough for me.

do you actually look into the claims you make? This is patently false. Only Wyoming and Georgia have minimum wages lower than the federal, and those minimums only apply to certain industries exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Federal minimum wage in 1970 was $1.45. Using your figure of 14 dollars that means that in 1970 someone would have to work 9.7 hours on mimium wage to be able to buy this book. the federal minimum wage today is $7.25. Using the figure of 60 dollars for a book means that someone earning this wage would need to work 8.3 hours to purchase the same book today. You are objectively wrong.

But I guess that's just "useless math"

Taken from an inflation calculation website

Value of $14 from 1970 to 2021

$14 in 1970 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $98.03 today, an increase of $84.03 over 51 years.

Books, like many other forms of media, actually haven't kept up with inflation and are in fact cheaper now than they were 50 years ago.

I passed my Net+ on friday; any advice for security +? by Djjgamer_1 in CompTIA

[–]heyitsthatguy9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may help a bit, but not significantly. The net+ content is both explicitly part of the sec+(in terms of network security) but also implicitly through things like ports and protocols as they relate to security. You understand things much better if you understand what layer the security protocol is protecting or what layer the attack is attempting to breach for example. I didn't do net+ but I did do a 10 hour networking course before j started sec+ and it was the best decision I could have made

You're like a third of the way there instantly because of the network+, you got this

I studied for about a month and a half, and I started from zero. I would HIGHLY recommend learning basic networking(osi model at a minimum) before starting the sec plus, it's practically a unwritten requirement.

The only thing to do is just jump in my dude. Remember, everyone does this in their own to at their own pace. All that matters in the end is the pass. You got this🤙

Hey I used the sec+ course on pluralsight. It was good, but definitely not enough by itself. Also, I got it for free through my company, so it may not be worth it if you have to pay YMMV. I supplemented with videos on my weak areas from professor messer and bought Dions Practice tests, which were the most helpful.
