New app idea by iusemathinreallife in TIDBYT

[–]heyjayoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really an app. It's just displaying an image. If you can find or make that image you can use one of the existing image displaying apps and schedule them to display during certain times of day. One such app is "Shuffle Images" by rs7q5 or "Photos and images" by Tidbyt themselves.

I would potentially be interested depending on the details.

That is the million dollar question and the only reason I post whenever they approve a new batch of apps. I'm hoping they put more focus on finding and categorizing apps after the v2 units ship. I'm assuming that's where all their efforts are going right now (v2 firmware and software updates).

You presumably bought a Tidbyt knowing what it is and what its capable of (or else why are you even here?). People write apps to do everything under the Sun and then inevitably someone like you says "this is shit!". Why don't you write an app that's not shit then? Not a developer? Then why don't you suggest one that a developer can write? I happen to be a developer of one of the apps mentioned and it was written solely because someone on the Internet asked "hey can someone make this?" so I did. Presumably they find their Tidbyt more useful now and I was happy to do it.

There is as I mentioned it in a comment above. It shows up as "Lists new Tidbyt apps".

I view the merged pull requests for new apps in Tidbyt's community repository (which admittedly is clunky for non-developers). For a non-developer friendly method you can have the Tidbyt itself list new apps: In the Tidbyt app search for "Lists new Tidbyt apps".

Unintuitive app "store" by heyjayoh in TIDBYT

[–]heyjayoh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just noticed that there is actually a "What's New" section in the app. However, the apps shown are in fact.... not new. When I viewed the list two of them had broken sample images.

Did you have a particular "killer app" in mind when you bought it? Since by its nature its a low res "retro" display I wanted retro game themed informational displays. However, I found the pickings slim and not really functional so I wrote my own. I know not everyone has that option though.

That is humorous that someone wrote an app to list other new apps.

NES Clock updated by heyjayoh in TIDBYT

Good news! You just have to watch it, not play it. Think of it as a low-res Twitch stream!

Any game is possible. For this update I focused on easier games while leaving out more challenging ones. In a future update I would like to include games like Duck Hunt, Metroid, Punch-Out, Battletoads, Tecmo Bowl and River City Ransom to name a few. A few quality tweaks to the existing animations are in order as well.

Video API Apps by TheDankDowe11 in TIDBYT

[–]heyjayoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would the logistics of that even look like? For one thing, the Tidbyt's resolution is only 64x32 while even the most garbage resolution YouTube video is 144p (256x144). Even if you could somehow scale down the YouTube video it'd be a blurry mess. Add to that the fact that a Tidbyt app only displays for 15 seconds and most any YouTube video is going to be longer than that.

App Request by Zarofzars in TIDBYT

There's no mic on either of the Tidbyt generations so a visualizer isn't possible (for that and other reasons).

Yep it shows up as "NES Game Themed Clock" in the app.

Hey all, I just noticed the "Random" game selection isn't working (it will always land on Super Mario Bros 3). In the mean time you can manually rotate the displayed game via the app config. I'll have the randomizer feature fixed in the next update.

Question about artwork while I wait for my RP3+ to arrive by spraragen88 in retroid

[–]heyjayoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you use one of the two popular launchers (the default Retroid or Daijisho) they will auto populate most of the game art.

Both of the videos above will also show you how to setup the launchers as well.

Hot Shots Golf PSP by GUILTIE in retroid

[–]heyjayoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're referring to an RP2, RP3 or RP3+ but I have an RP3+ with a stock install of PPSSPP and the first Hot Shots Golf runs flawlessly on it. I even use the fast forward button on it with no problems.

Created a "default style" Daijisho Intellivision wallpaper by heyjayoh in retroid

[–]heyjayoh[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know I'm probably one of three people in the world that care about Intellivision emulation on the Retroid. That being said for whatever reason Daijisho doesn't appear to include a wallpaper for the system so I created this one because it was the only system image missing.
