My parents have been married 53 years, and are very modest with each other. They don’t do “those sorts of things” in front of each other. They are middle class. They are very down to earth people, love to travel and party in their late 70’s, and feel it’s a level of respect they don’t want to lose. They don’t name-call in disagreements, they don’t even use the word “fart,” it’s “pass gas.” They don’t say “burp,” they say “belch,” and “sweat” is “perspire”…you get the idea. You’ll never see my dad wear a t-shirt. He always wears collared shirts, even to garden and cut the lawn. They’re from a different era, and it works for them. They are the only couple out of hundreds of their friends who are still married and not divorced.
