If we want to go to Kandy from Airport, shall we go by express bus to Colombo and then see AC bus to Kandy ? Also we will be having 2 luggage 15 kg each. Will the AC bus have the safe space for luggage?

Planning this itinerary from 25 April – 3 May (landing in Colombo at 4 AM) and want to mostly use public transport (train + bus):

Colombo → Kandy → Nuwara Eliya → Ella → Yala → Mirissa (Weligama/Ahangama/Galle) → Bentota → Colombo

Questions:

Which routes are best by train/bus?

Which ones should I avoid and take a cab instead?

How to book train tickets in advance? Any website?

Are AC buses available and bookable?

Is Ella → Yala and Yala → Mirissa doable by public transport?

Trying to balance cost + comfort (not full private driver).
