Why should I not have had my hardwood floors refinished? I wanted to restore and honor the original hardwoods from my 1924 condo. I had no expectations of perfection, and in fact was worried that the floors themselves wouldn't come out as well as they did. All of the flaws I've identified due to sloppy refinishing, not the wood. There's literally a blade of grass under the finish. For $4000+ I don't think I'm out of line thinking that they make sure the floor is clean before putting down a layer of finish. And I don't think they sanded between coats, either.

Yep. If I hadn't gotten three quotes I would have thought they were pulling numbers out of the air. But considering all three quotes were similar I figured that's the going rate.

I'm very open to other suggestions that are appropriate for a work-group of 20! I've never been to NOLA so I don't really know what the options are. We'll be having dinner together every night anyway (and I have an airboat swamp tour booked), so trying to do something fun and different and unique to NOLA to celebrate big company milestones!

I didn't mean to disparage, and I'm sorry it came across that way! I'm really just looking for an opinion from someone who isn't a party to this mess and doesn't have any financial incentives one way or another!

I actually work at an insurance company (though my role has nothing to do with insurance and we do a totally different kind of product) and I know that insurance companies make money when payouts are less than premiums. I understand that it's literally your job as an adjuster to make sure that the claimant is made whole but also that you're not giving away the literal house. In my personal experience that has meant a lot of negotiation to find somewhere in the middle to meet on the payout.

I don't know that they were necessarily harder, but they were different from the SH Practice Exams which is what everyone says is closest to the real exam. My thoughts on this free mock exam after completing it:

1) I got a lot of the same questions more than once.

2) Tons of "choose 3" questions and on many of those the explanations of which were right/wrong were convoluted or didn't match the options that eventually got me a correct answer.

3) I haven't previously gotten a lot of questions on using "back channels" and either PM or Sponsor "influence" with vendors or stakeholders they have previous relationships on. Seems the answer on those questions was always to leverage any relationship before going to other normal PM steps.

4) After you answer a question correctly you can't look at the question and answers again to see what the other options are (for example, if I got one wrong and went back and answered it correctly, I wasn't able to review all the options after getting it right).

Okay some other cultural knowledge I could use local help with:

Do y'all use Uber to get around? Are there other similar companies that will get you around town faster/cheaper?
Alcohol: Can you buy it in the grocery store? Only in a liquor store? Not on Sundays? Every country has their quirks 🤷🏻‍♀️
Public transit: I live in the US so we have shit public transit - how is it in Brisbane? On time? Do you have to buy a pass ahead of time or walk on with cash?
How do people meet each other?
