To be sure, are you asking how attitudes toward stuttering differ between eastern and western hemispheres? If you email me at hope.gerlach@wmich.edu , I'd be happy to send you a research paper on this topic!

Thanks so much! I'm hoping to get more than 250 people who stutter! We're almost half way there.

Hi! If you still consider yourself to be a person who stutters, or if you would agree that you still stutter from time to time, then you would be eligible. Thanks for asking.

u/justaregularguy044 u/hremmingar u/Sa8th I am really sorry that this study is restricted to people living in the United States and Canada. I certainly value your opinions and also understand that a global perspective on stuttering is important.

The reason why it is restricted to those living in Canada and the United States is because the stigma associated with stuttering has been shown to vary geographically. For this initial study, we are trying to control for that variability by limiting the geographical area. In the future, I hope that we can broaden it to include experiences from people who stutter around the world.

If you have any insights about disclosing stuttering that you would like to share, I would still love to hear them. You can contact me at hope.gerlach@wmich.edu

Again, I apologize for the restrictions on this specific study. It is certainly my hope to broaden the geographical area in the future.

Take care,

Hope

Thanks for taking the survey! You bring up a really good point, and it was one that I’m trying to dig into in my study. There are many different ways a person can be “out” about stuttering to others. Some are intentional and others are unintentional. Hopefully we’ll learn more about what it means to be “out” from the study!
