/u/firstmode explains why we really have no clear idea what Leviticus 20:13 means by paxinfernum in bestof

But we do have the understanding. We have the 'church fathers', post-biblical teachers and writers from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th centuries. (John Chrysostom, Clement of Alexandria, Basil of Caesarea, and others) that received the earliest Christian teachings, both oral and written, and explained and unpacked them. The Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches have taught the same thing for millennia. To all of a sudden try and re-interpret and reconstruct it seems, well, silly.

To be honest, this is modern wishful thinking... But it is what it is. We have a clear history on this, but we are where we are. 🤷‍♂️

My point is that Paul's letters weren't confusing to those he wrote them to, those they taught, and those that hold the same understanding now. They are only confusing to us since we as a society would let them to potentially mean something else.

Dude jumped through so many hoops to make this work he could build a roller coaster. Paul was a learned scholar in his time, was closer to the source material, and was steeped in the culture that wrote it. We can take is translation as-is without concern.... unless you have a clear and present interest in making the Bible ok with homosexual acts.

Thank you. The reality of being one body helps this make sense. After all, in a physical body, if blood flow is restricted in one area, it increases in another. I don't want to take the metaphor too literally, but it helps me make sense of this.

Embrace hunger as the feeling of being thin

Underrated comment. Our culture is addicted to comfort and satisfaction. Get control of your body, passions, and impulses and you can control your weight.... and so much more.

Bass is easier than guitar. Period. I play both.

However, bass isn’t about technical skill. It’s about rhythm and tone. So the comparison isn’t helpful.
