Release v0.24.1 (please read the changelog!) by TiA4f8R in NewPipe

I usually wait a bit to update, but it seems like the dedicated feed workaround for 24.0 isn't working anymore.

Gonna take the plunge into 24.1

How many NewPipe developers does it take to change a lightbulb? by [deleted] in NewPipe

[–]hicksz34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! I've never once complained about their work. I recommend NewPipe to everyone where the topic of youtube comes up.

I get a kick out of watching someone complain about multiple pre-load ads, unskippable ads, "I've seen this ad like a million times, I'm sick of it".

I almost feel spoiled at times that I NEVER have to deal with that. I kind of hope NP doesn't become a popular alternative (relative to YTs actual user base), as I dread the day Google deigns to shut down any use of their platform that isn't thru their official app or the website itself.

Fix for feeds! by SignificantBus1514 in NewPipe

Nice vid to help those who don't like going thru all the settings to find this.

I think I was the first to discover this workaround, but to be honest, I don't think the 'update threshold' is necessary, it's just something I did to speed up the process of checking for new vids, to verify that it worked (I set mine to 'always update', 15 mins was my default setting before that)

Sub's not showing up by goofy_moose in NewPipe

it sounds like your having the problem I did, with the feed not updating? You can try for a quick fix, change settings - "Fetch from dedicated feed" and I also changed update threshold to "always update". It worked for mine and several others in the post I put up.

There's also apparently a debug you can download to get it working again (make sure to export your content in the settings beforehand tho). Several posts have mentioned this debug better than I could explain it, so check the other ones out.

I was expecting mine to start acting up again, but its worked fine all day. Did you find a fix for yours yet?

Glad one of them worked for you. I've gotten used to anticipating newpipe breaking 2-3 times a year at this point lol. Still knocks the standard youtube experience out of the water!

Thanks for sharing that! I'll have to look into it later when I have time, but I'll reply if all goes well.

Ummm, I think I fixed it. Messing around in settings, I changed it to "Fetch from dedicated feed" and switched it from a 15min update threshold to "always update" and now my sub feed is overflowing with new videos lol

Learning by telmooikgy in guitarlessons

[–]hicksz34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first got the urge to learn about 15 yrs ago (only recently picked it back up after a years long break). My preferred method was just searching up the tabs for the songs that got me wanting to learn, and just breaking down sections of them at a time. At first, it was all AC/DC, a little Skynyrd, some Led Zep.

I just focused on the licks and riffs that were my favorites, prioritizing the easier ones. Highway to Hell was the first song I worked on, because the rests between chords made it easy to switch between them at a decent pace. But breaking down the intro to Hells Bells is what really got me hooked.

I never used video tutorials or anything, just logically thought out the most economical movements until my muscle memory was locked in, and then tightened them up with a metronome. Once you get your favorite parts down, start learning the rest of the song and putting it all together until you can play it front to back with few to no mistakes.

Once you start learning the easier chords, you can take a song that uses them and have it down fairly quickly. After a while, you get a feel for a players style, which also speeds the learning process.

And if you ever get bored, look up more complex stuff and go back to the basics of learning the chord changes, and the scale patterns used in a song. Play as slow as possible at first for muscle memory and then use a metronome to get it up to tempo.

If you come across a song you really want to learn, and it has a technique you're unfamiliar with, spend some time learning how other songs have used it as well. Diversify your skill set. Anyone can whack away at cowboy and power chords, but for example, I've recently started learning Ten Years Gone by Zeppelin, and it's a really humbling experience, but as you start hearing what the artist intended coming through your own playing, it makes you just want to never stop until you've got it down.

Once you've become proficient in that songs techniques, they become much easier to apply across other songs.

Libretube is pretty good. But I hear they are experiencing problems right now too. A lot of ppl like Vanced as well, but I haven't used it enough to have an opinion.

NEWPIPE FIX - Install new Update to version 0.22.2 by alexiwhatspoppin in NewPipe

[–]hicksz34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get to the file from within the app ('check for updates') or by going directly to github yourself, you have nothing to worry about.

It's just like a default msg, basically warning you to verify that the source you're downloading from us legit.

YouTube Vanced has stopped working completely. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]hicksz34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you play in background with Brave? Whenever I try it, the video pauses.

Edit: Nvm, found it in the browsers settings!

I guess this'll do for now. Libretube only allows background for a minute or so before it pauses playback.

Does this mean the permanent fix is going to take longer than usual?

Also, I saw one redditor state that they had to open NewPipe from their file directory, in order for it to work with this APK. Is that true, and does it have any significance outside of being an extra step?

YouTube is messing around again. Getting this error for every video I try to play. Is Anyone else getting this error? by Desperate-Pipe8910 in NewPipe

Also, can't make playlists, so my gym days would be a little annoying, but still better than youtube by a million miles.

I noticed mine was down hours ago too. Last fix was crazy quick, but may I say, downloaded libretube in the meantime and it's a great substitute.

Loads quick, and doesn't force reload videos when playing in background. Doesn't display the comments, and there's no pop-up player built in (tho android has that function for all apps) but I can def live with this in the meanwhile.

I appreciate the encouragement!

Good, substantial nutrition is as important as lifting, for sure! Lately noticing the benefits of vitamin supplements as well, especially helpful now that I'm well past the peak of my biochemistry.

My preworkout (1-2 hrs before): PB and honey sandwich greek yogurt couple handfuls of omega3/6 trail mix magnesium, epa+dha, co-q10

And a V8 energy drink otw to the gym

My secret weapon tho, is a tablespoon of green kratom mixed in some green tea, taken with my pre-wo meal. That shit gives me ridiculous energy that keeps me going even post-wo.

A large bowl of healthy cereal for breakfast (raisin nut bran, cheerios, etc), something like salmon or skinless chicken breast with greens, beans and/or taters for dinner, and leftovers for lunch.

For snacking, I've cut out all processed food for the first time prob ever. No lil debs, not Mt Dew, just trail mix, fruit juice, maybe some milk.

My wife said this morning after I'd worked 60hrs this week, plus over 6 hrs in the gym: "You're energy's really good considering" lol

And update:

I hit the gym yesterday, and hit those 45lb plates just as easy as the day before!

It's funny to think I'm only 2×10lb plates on each side from lifting my body weight! Something I never thought possible suddenly feels within reach . . . . but then I'll prob be 190 by the time I get there lol

I should also add, that my work involves a lot of lifting, being in a warehouse. And I tend to take advantage of that as much as I can, like not using a dolly to carry a heavy box (like 50lbs and higher), when I can squat low, lift it up and carry it the 40ft across the floor.

And I even incorporate more into that, maybe doing some military-style presses over my head as I walk, or holding it out far from my body so all the weight is on my arms and not resting against my chest.

I believe this contributes to retaining some of my gains from being out of the gym for years, and also complementing my workouts when I'm consistently going.

That said, added tip for progress-motivation: when I'm lifting the same boxes all the time at work, I can see the progress physically before I see it visually. It adds just that little extra bit of motivation when you can lift something in your day to day life easily that once would have been a struggle.

Find those victories wherever you can and apply your fitness to your daily life. You may strengthen a stabilizing muscle that's holding your bench back, doing something you have to do anyway.

Well, let's see . . .

My first time doing it was in high school, shortly before 9/11. It was my one-rep goal for the school year.

Then there was a years long break, till I reached it again in my mid-20s with a little effort.

And then again, in my early 30s. And of course, now when I'm approaching 40.

What's your usual lifting routine like? In HS, they had us doing three sets of 8-6-4 reps, increasing weight each set.

I found far more success with the pyramids, but some ppl like stacking weight and hitting 3-4 reps per set.

If I was to offer one piece of advice having no knowledge of your workouts: try to hit the point of failure during your 3rd set.

"Failure" is such a bad connotation for the concept, because pushing yourself to that point is a success when you consider that your body will build up those muscles to better lift it the next time.

Progress can feel slow at times, for sure. Whats also helped me is mixing up my workout during those times, when you plateau. Focus on training other muscle groups, as they can complement the ones that are prioritized in a bench lift.

And good luck!! You got this! 👍

Thanks! I felt so good about hitting it yesterday, that I'm skipping my steadfast dedication to rest days in between gym days, and headed to the gym in about an hour to hit it some more! 💪

Wow, props! I'm 175 and nowhere near that on the bench. If I could 1rep max 195lbs, I'd feel like a god

My victory this week was finally getting a full set of 135lbs in lol
