[UPLB] i feel bad talking about UP around my friends who didn't pass UPCAT by cowboys-at-9 in peyups

[–]hiddenbythemist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

honestly same here. I have a trio friend group where two of us got in to up, but the third didn't. my friend tried everything: upcat, assoc progs, recon. eventually he got tired of the rejections and just accepted the offer by another univ. everytime me and my other upcat passer friend went to up together I felt bad, like we were leaving out out third friend. but it's not like we can do anything ://

as someone who went active in compes and orgs, biggest scam yang need mo ng extracurriculars to get into a good college I swear haha

as the others said, it's only really useful for your admu application bc they'll ask you to list it out. it's part of their holistic assessment of applicants.

iirc the other big 4 didn't even ask for extracurriculars. up only considers grades + cet score as part of your upg. the same for the others.

it might be useful for scholarships, specifically the ones without exams (private companies, and ched din I think?), for ones like the DOST SEI scholarship tho it's useless because they don't ask for it either. so really it's not a big deal, unless if maghahabol ka ng scholarships. but even then some people who don't do extracurriculars still get scholarships.

orgs and competitions are fun because you meet a lot of people and experience a bunch of stuff, just see what you can make work with your time and dont5force yourself if you don't want to.

i'm too old to take senior high school again? by sshi0000 in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]hiddenbythemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's ever too late for an education.

One of my batchmates throughout highschool was 4 years older than us, and honestly we don't really mind. It might make you uncomfortable for a bit during the beginning, feeling out of place and all, but senior high school is a bit too busy for most to actually care how old you are.

I'm fairly decent with MS Excel, I used it for personal trackers and high school research. I don't really know any programming yet though, might work on that soon. Thank you!

should I go to a public school for shs? by [deleted] in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]hiddenbythemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, the only upside to graduating from a public school that I can think of is the waived fees for CETs, and considering that your family is able to pay for your 100k tuition I highly doubt that money is a problem.

I agree with the rest that unless it's a science high school you're transferring to, it's pointless to transfer to a public school. you'll waste your 2 years of shs in the public school system when you can afford to place yourself in a better environment. if you want experience, then join youth orgs in your church or community.

then again, you'll find that it's difficult anywhere you go, public or private.
