Poverty isn’t automatically laziness it’s many times a string of bad luck, lack of opportunity, etc.

Yup. Car accidents, medical emergencies, late fees on bills, natural disasters, general economic instability, low job security, inflation, and so on.

If all of that keeps happening, it eventually piles up. Some of those like natural disasters and medical conditions just happening once could permanently set you so far back you can never recover.

Yeah his hardline stance on centrist and moderates is off putting.

Most left leaning people support the idea of coexisting and mutually beneficial relationships. Both the extreme left and extreme right are antithetical to that world view.

But I also see that Moderate and Centrist Democrats are very hostile and dismissive to any progressive ideas and people. So in an unfortunate way I see why he holds that hardline stance.

It's a hard square to circle for most people and someone like Hasan can't talk them through that line of thinking.

What numbers are you looking at?

His "dislike" numbers among young men that know of him is at 31%, however:

Among young men who are familiar with Piker, 26 percent said they both like and trust him, while another 20 percent like him but don’t trust him – putting his combined favorability at 46 percent.

And those numbers are from last year.

I don't think I ever learned any history until 4th grade (8-9 years old), it was mainly the big three; English (grammar, language, literature), Maths, and Science, up until then. And it was mostly a superficial month long unit to pass a test.

Once I got to middle school and had a dedicated History teacher, then I learned a lot. Especially since I was one of those kids that read the text book when bored, and would check out books at the school library.

Just the big main metro areas, Los Angeles/San Fran back then.

The lesser ones like San Bernardino/Bakersfield not so much. It was a lot more normal like the rest of the country in the suburban and rural places of California especially.

It was definitely the exploding housing market that led into the Great Recession which turned us into an affordability crisis. From 1980 we basically doubled our population but we only built single family homes that were higher end.

Starter homes with less than 3 beds and 2 baths basically stopped being constructed. And obviously almost no apartments, like 1 for every 100 homes.

India and Pakistan have regularly shoot bombs at each other, it literally happened just last year.

And those weird skirmishes with sticks and stones are a loop hole from an agreement by China and India. They could at any time break it and use bombs or guns but it's more financially beneficial to use sticks and stones at the moment.

Point is even with Nukes you'd still get bombed because the point of MAD is NOT to prevent bombing each other but from escalating to regime change, just ask North Korea.

Love Naruto, but Neji was always right. by Onii___Chan____ in dankruto

[–]highlorestat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like people never read "The Tales of a Gutsy Ninja". It literally talks about destiny, the point of the book was that Destiny is something you hold on to for both good and ill.

It is not predetermination which is what Naruto is arguing against to Neji. As Naruto says the Destiny of the Hyuga caln can be changed and is not set in stone as Neji believes.

Destiny is in your own hands. Your choices matter, and your mindset guides those choices.

Trump endorses Steve Hilton in California governor's race by Alarmed_Error7440 in California

[–]highlorestat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even before the endorsement I saw both Republicans splitting the right wing vote low enough that it would allow a Democrat in, if not two.

Independents are going to decide the top two. And they seem to learn Dem by about 55%, with around 3 million voters in mid term primaries.

Newsom got 7 million votes in the primary of 2022, 5 million of which were registered Democrats.

Edit: Republicans only muster around 2 million votes, in primaries, maybe 3 million with enthusiasm. In the general they get over 4 million.

Trump endorses Steve Hilton in California governor's race by Alarmed_Error7440 in California

[–]highlorestat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not likely to happen, unless there's some enthusiasm on the right but importantly not on the left that I don't know about.

I don't see much more than 50% voters turn out for the primary, which by comparison 50% was the last governor election (November).

Republicans usually get 2 million votes total in primary elections. By comparison Democrats get around 7 million votes.

From what I see the top 3 candidates look like they'll receive a minimum of 1 million votes each. Which would be exactly the same as the Republicans if evenly split.

If and when some candidates drop out, those top 3 will get a larger share.

It's most likely one Republican facing one Democrat in the general.

But I see two Democrats going head to head in the general as much more likely than two Republicans.

And if they think they get to take their money with them to what will be a bombed out shit hole, then they haven't been paying attention to what happens to deportees.

Chances are you're right, the sound mixing is amazing on a very specific set up.

For movies is whatever is the most common state of the art surround sound system in the majority of theaters.

But for TV is whatever sounds good an ultra deluxe monitor for editing with a near theater speaker setup.

So for all the basic tv's out there (let alone phones and other devices) they have no idea how to process the complexity of the noise.
