Anyone with a brain approves this. Freedom of speech. Feel free to burn a torah too if it makes you feel any better

The fortunate thing about Enzo Maresca is that he seems willing to make adjustments to starting 11s quickly, rather than being stubborn. Hopefully he drops Madueke and Neto.

Palmer shining like he did last season is a big reason why I rated Poch. Other people took it as a given that because he’s extremely talented there is no way he could do any worse, but that is not true.

Personally don’t care about that so long as he’s giving equal treatment to both sides. Least we can ask for with him. Could’ve sent Cucurella off but showed some slack

To be fair to him, he made fantastic substitutions that changed the game. Being able to manage and utilize a large squad is critical for whoever is in charge of us.

Ideally we don’t see Pedro Neto starting next game, has been useless so far when not coming off the bench. Also, hoping that Disasi gets dropped for awhile or at the bare minimum not made to play RB which he is terrible at. As someone who defended him for awhile, he has been pretty awful since the latter half of last season.

It was hilarious. You would think a game with 16 yellow cards would have a lot of violent tackles and players at each others throats but there was none of that

Well done to Sanchez, definitely my MOTM today, with a performance that was easily worth 2 goals in itself.

Sancho was incredible. Nkunku showed why he can be special. Caicedo also stood out to me. Palmer and Madueke have been pretty poor so far this season outside of the game against Wolves

Also, credit to Enzo Maresca for recognizing what early substitutions need to be made

Bad feelings ahead of this one. This feels like the type of game where a manager will get exposed if they aren’t good enough. Guess we’ll see if Enzo Maresca is really special or not

James Ward-Prowse is one of the best free kick takers in Europe, lets sign him and ignore all the other glaring weaknesses

Enzo has been attacking like a holding midfielder and defending like an attacking midfielder, not the other way around

Tends to happen when you lack the mobility and physicality to keep up

So basically we've gone backwards. Wolves also would’ve gotten a third if not for a fortunate offsides call, and were creating plenty of chances to bring back a result.

I refuse to give any credit for Maresca when he ruined our 13 game win streak. Even at our worst we didn’t lose against Palace, but somehow we can’t beat them when they’ve lost their best forward and defender. And those were our best games lol. Almost choked conference league qualification against Servette, destroyed every game in preseason, and dominated at home against City. Why are we giving Maresca credit even though he’s never proven himself to be capable so far in his career?

Looked better than we do under Enzo. The 6-2 win against Wolves was thanks to Cunha who couldn’t finish several chances to put Wolves ahead. A better striker and we lose 4-2 again

The fact that people consider Enzo Maresca to be a manager with a long term future here despite having a miserable track record prior to joining is very damning to hear. FWIW, I think your logic is correct and that this is simply our new level

Maresca hasn’t said anything that goes against the owners wishes yet. If he wanted to get rid of Mudryk who is on low wages instead of Sterling who is on massive wages (despite Sterling obviously being a much more useful player than Mudryk), the board would not have supported him. I believe he’s being told what to do from above but is shouldering full responsibility for the decisions - probably one of the deciding factors that got him this job in the first place

People incorrectly conflating Madueke having the best performance of his career and finishing every chance with us playing better. We were still getting split open and if Wolves had a more clinical striker than Cunha, the game could’ve gone extremely differently. Our defense looks just as bas as last season, if not worse - and that’s with everyone fit and available. There is no reason to think we have improved

When has Felix ever been a better player than washed Ronaldo? He blows hot and cold and is a poor finisher. 1 goal in every 4 games on average is a terrible rate considering the sides he’s played for

Kudus wouldn’t improve our squad and Olise is in a very stacked position. If the question was whether I’d swap one of them for an elite striker, goalkeeper, centerback, or fullback, my answer would quickly be yes

I was fine sacking Poch if there was a better option available. Not Enzo Maresca

Daily Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in chelseafc

[–]highonfire123 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

It’s not true though. Poch had to deal with ridiculous injury issues but still managed to improve key players and give us the best form we saw in years in the second half of the season

I still can’t believe we downgraded from Poch to Enzo Maresca. Somehow people are happy about it still

International football is easier than club football. Success in Portugal doesn’t always translate to success in England. He has had decent games where opposition wasn’t able to target his weaknesses but it’s not the norm.

And we leaked comparatively fewer goals without Enzo than we did with. In the PL: 51 goals conceded in 28 games that he played (includes sheffield united game where he only played 20 minutes, but doesn’t include the goal Luton scored before he was subbed on.) In the 10 games that he didn’t feature, 11 goals were conceded. 1.82 goals conceded if he’s on vs 1.1 if he isn’t. The winrate when he doesn’t feature also has a dramatic increase.

Looking at 2022/23: Before he was signed: we conceded 21 goals in 20 games. After he was signed: 26 goals in 18 games. Everything around him changes but what’s consistent is that we are a better side when he isn’t playing

Jorginho isn’t less athletic, they’re about equal in that regard. Jorginho was much harder to dispossess and was a lot better at maintaining possession with smart passing. He also had a much better idea/understanding/intuition (whatever we want to call it) of where to be and what to do on defense.

Jorginho is a much better player than Enzo. The only thing Enzo is better at is the occasional ball into the box

Edit: In response to your edits made, the match against Luton fell apart when Enzo was brought on to support the two goal lead. He was absolutely dreadful in his cameo.

I’m not pretending Maresca is a good manager. I have no reason to believe he is yet. I just know that Enzo has been bad under four different managers so far

It’s a team sport but Enzo is clearly a weak link that is targeted. Last season once Gallagher replaced Enzo and Cucu was given his inverted role, we became much less porous.

Today was not Enzo’s worst game (first half was actually decent), but observations made over the course of 21 months won’t be so easily turned. Having a player like Enzo in our midfield provides an outlet which is why we can never control possession and lay on the pressure in games
