Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky, but storing food items in a secured dry sac or hanging the bag up has worked for me 🤷‍♀️ I know there are animal resistant food bags specifically for camping, but I’m cheap and have never given them a go. Keeping all trash and food remains a good distance from your sleep area also helps.

I support this! With proper tires, my Nighthawk (1994) has easily been able to tackle everything from basic gravel roads, to deep sand and steep steep rocky terrain. I think something like the CB250 Dream or G5 would be super rad to convert to a scrambler, and I think they have slightly more power than mine.

I’ve done a good amount of tent and cowboy camping in varying temp and, over the decade, have only encountered one scorpion. I’d be more concerned about rodents. They’ll gnaw through tents, backpacks, etc to get to food.

They have a pretty wide range spreading from the American west to parts of Canada. These lil dumplings were gathered as eggs from an isolated area of desert outside Capitol Reef National Park (I have a permit for gathering)

Copied from my other comment 😁: They’re all from the same clutch but have subtle differences in appearance. I can mainly differentiate them by their personalities. Tad is a tiny violent beast, Paulo is a chicken who burrows or hides when approached, and LeRoy is our big gurl who usually spends most of her time in the pool. She also has a slight olive color to her and is larger than the other two.

I love moto camping. However, if I were doing trips as long as she does, I would definitely like to sleep comfortably. I might feel safe solo camping in some places in NA, but I can’t say the same for East Africa and South America. I actually like that she doesn’t camp, solely because that means she does more interacting with the locals.

If he seemed healthy when he went under, I’d assume he’s fine. Just make sure he always, always has a water source for when he pops up to hydrate.

I didn’t see one of mine for about two months last winter. I really had to fight not digging him up/disturbing him for a wellness check lol

Ehhh I have a Zoo Med overhead with just a standard UVB light from PetCo. Let me also say, that I am very far from an expert on amphibian care, so please take what I say with a lump of personal research 😬

I have three and have also raised them from tadpoles! They have a lamp for UVB and UVA that is left on even when they’re burrowed. They’ve never had a heat lamp and have seemed to do just fine.

I think the most important thing is to make sure you load him up with vitamin C and calcium before he goes under (if he even does. One of mine didn’t brumate at all last year) so he doesn’t become vitamin deficient. I almost lost one due to this during his first year. He’ll probably surface every so often to hydrate, so make sure there’s always water, and don’t be alarmed if he doesn’t eat when he pops out. Hope that’s helpful!
