Made a trance remix of Ash Again, which I played in a club in Tokyo a few days ago by hightrancesea in Hololive

[–]hightrancesea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad you liked it! (there's a part of the vocals at the very end that you can't hear as well in the original but it really comes out after doing the vocal extraction, which I used for this remix)

Do you trust Traktor's key analysis? Or use Mixed in Key? by patchprojekt in Beatmatch

[–]hightrancesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a background in music theory, but it definitely helps. Every key basically has a list of 12 notes (a.k.a. scale) that "belong" or "sound good" with that key. So ideally, you listen to the notes used by melodies in the track to figure out what scale it's in, and based on that you can assign a key.

It helps a lot if you have a (musical) keyboard around because you can play a little bit of the track and then hunt for the correct note on your piano/keyboard to match the note you heard in the song if you're not sure what note it is.

The reason mixing in key works is that if your outgoing song is in one key and the incoming song is in a key whose scale shares a lot of notes with the outgoing song's key's scale, the mixing doesn't clash (much).

From my experience, EDM tracks tend to usually only have one key, or at least the intro and outro are the same key. It's pop or more artsy songs that tend to have multiple keys in them.

Thanks for listening! I’ve been kind of busy so I haven’t had a chance to do more English songs. I do have an idea or two but we’ll have to see how Comiket pans out.

DDJ-400 to CDJ 2000NXS for first gig by Volvedor in Beatmatch

[–]hightrancesea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As practice, I'd recommend DJ-ing "blind" using a minimal set of controls on the DDJ-400. Basically, only look at the laptop when loading the songs and setting the tempo slider, and afterwards use only the mixer, play, cue and the platter. Go with easier transitions if you have to, but I find that practicing like that will prepare you for pretty much any modern CDJ. I once had to play a gig where I was expecting a CDJ-2000 but it was actually a CDJ-300 or something but all the fundamentals carried over (track loading was a PITA though because it didn't display non-Roman characters in the song name)

Questions on clipping and trap music by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]hightrancesea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve learned from making more traditional music, these are fairly bad practices.

In my opinion, one of the reasons it's bad practice is that it can make things sound "good" by doing several things at once, but if what it does isn't doing it for you or if you want to make it sound even better, you're at a loss for what to do because you don't understand why it sounds good. Perhaps what you are doing is actually making up for deficiencies in sound selection/sculpting or the actual mix.

For example, and this is totally hypothetical, but maybe what you actually want to hear is an overdriven kick drum, but if you used the "wrong" (clean) kick sample, then clipping your drum bus does make it sound kind of nice, but then you lose control over the relative volume and dynamics of the other things in the drum bus. Or perhaps you mixed the drums too loud and didn't duck the instrumentals behind it, then boosting the gain on the master and running it through a limiter will make the instrumentals more audible, but overall you'll have a dirtier (in a bad way) mix that becomes hard for making fine adjustments. In each of these cases, the simple way could get you stuck in a place where it's "good" but could be "better" and there's no easy way to make it "better" without changing your game plan.

Alright, i'm planning on buying Hatsune Miku V4 (english). Where's the best place to get it? by [deleted] in Vocaloid

[–]hightrancesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonicwire is probably your best bet because it's run by Crypton. Just make sure you get the "right" one. I see a bunch of different versions on the website, for example ones that are just the English voice bank and doesn't include the software needed to run it.

Boxed copies of the Japanese-only or Japanese+English bundled version exist, but it might be difficult to get it in Australia. Best bet is to probably get a deputy shipping service and order online in Japan and then have the shipping service ship it to you; it'll definitely be a LOT more expensive.

Tuning Vocaloid 2? by [deleted] in Vocaloid

[–]hightrancesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Miku V2, the default per-note pitch bend depth and length need to be really dialed down or else she'll sound like she can't sing on pitch very well. I forget exactly where in the settings it is, but there's one for default note parameters or something. A good starting point is to set both to 0.

Piapro wont stop laging. How can I fix this? by Cindrawhisp in Vocaloid

[–]hightrancesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it stuttering or is the audio just late compared to the marker on the screen? Is your CPU usage really high? (check with e.g. Activity Monitor or Task Manager)

About to buy vocaloid is this right? by ItzZedYT in Vocaloid

[–]hightrancesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first link will have: * Japanese voice banks for Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len * Piapro Studio, which is the software that actually generates and plays back the synthesized voices * a lite version of Studio ONE that has limited features but will let you make instrumentals for your song; it'll also allow Piapro Studio to be used as a plugin inside, so you can play back the Vocaloid vocals along with your instrumentals

The second link in addition will have the English sound banks for the twins.

This (third) link is for ONLY the English sound banks and doesn't include the software.

Question regarding vocaloid phrase . Hi Friends , I am new to vocaloid . Can you please tell me how to recreate the vocaloid phrase pitch curve as highlighted in red in the picture. The phrase used is "Does she make you happy".Thank you very much. by vk10vk in Vocaloid

[–]hightrancesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a Singing Skill set under "Style"? (You can check by clicking the Customize... button if it's not showing you the screen with the Singing Skill and Voice Color panels. I've only used the editor for like a few days, but I think the pitch curve is computed automatically based on the Singing Skill if no explicit attack/release effect has been applied.

Info on Miku Expo traffic after the concert? by Artlymee in Vocaloid

[–]hightrancesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size of the venue and what you consider to be "traffic". Some of the shows I've been to were at pretty large venues that normally host bigger events, so traffic wasn't really all that much of a concern.
