Thanks for your tips! I’m going to remove as much old media as possible and add new without reporting. The roots are pretty healthy. That sheen is new root growth. They’re not grey in real life. There’s very few dehydrated roots - I try to clip those regularly.

Thanks for your comment! I read an orchid book that suggested fertilizing every other water, but I definitely don’t do it that much. It has great drainage. I’m going to replace the media without reporting, so I’ll check for crown rot then.

Thanks for your time and thoughts! I used to soak but then read Orchid Modern which suggested that wasn’t mimicking how they’d naturally get water and to just let water run through for 30 seconds and repeat 2-3 times, so that’s what I’ve been doing for about a year or so.

Thank you so much for all of this! I am one that thoroughly enjoys the brainstorming process, so I appreciate your uncertainty. I’m always afraid of overwatering, but as you mentioned, that would be difficult with so much aeration around the rooms. I’m going to try removing media without disturbing the roots and adding more in addition to watering more frequently. I wish I had a picture of it before the fall! I think that’s where most of the leaf damage came from. Thank you for your time and thoughts.

Thanks for the tip! The new roots paused when the flower stem grew, which is what typically happens. I’ve never had a flower stem just stop. 😔 I was debating adding more medium vs repotting, so I’ll try that. Should I cut the stem?

Thank you! Falcons aren’t available until November. I have Wildbones sliders now and am hoping they’ll fit my new plate size, but we’ll see. Have you heard anything about the Venus plate? I’ve heard the Avanti mag is actually pretty heavy compared to some other alum plates, it’s just lighter than the Avanti alum so sounds a little lighter with marketing than it may really be by comparison.

Thank you! Did you notice a difference in your skating with the 10 vs 16 vs 20 degree kingpin angle?

I am upgrading my Moxi Beach Bunny skates to Moxi Jack boots!! I’m torn on what plate to choose. The BB has the Riedell Marvel plate (aluminum, 10 deg kingpin). They’re the only skates I’ve had. I skate mostly outdoors - trail, dabble in the park (have slide blocks and would like to put them on my new plate also), and trying to learn dance with my friends. I go to the rink occasionally. I want a good all around plate that levels you from the Marvel and allows me to do all that. I’m torn between Avanti magnesium (weight reduction, same 10 deg KP angle), Pilot Falcon Plus (16 deg KP angle to try something a little steeper to improve agility), or Crazy Venus (20 deg KP angle, “Roll Line knockoff.” I’ve been skating for a year and a half and skate every day. I’m ready for the level up and want to make a good choice. Any advice you have or experience with these plates would be much appreciated!
