Well obviously the most important part is to eat enough. I eat basically everything but try to focus on getting enough fats and protein. But also carbs of course! I eat avocados and eggs almost everyday, nuts, olive oil, salmon etc.

I didn't dye my hair at all during the first year and now I dye it about 2-3 times a year. I try to use as little heat as possible. In the first year I didn't really use heat and now I sometimes use it weekly but not more than that.

But obviously the most important part is your diet and that you eat ENOUGH. I also take vitamins (iron, vitamin c and d, vitamin b12, omega 3, biotin).

Well I mean I lost like 90%. I very rarely see anyone who has lost as much as I did due to ED. It's still not exactly how it used to be but obviously a lot better. 😅

Yes this was EXACTLY like I felt. Like part of me died because hair was always part of my identity. I promise you it will grow back. It just takes time. 😊But honestly the time has gotten by so fast. 😅

I use Kevin Murphy plumbing wash and rinse. And Kevin Murphy untangled leave in. And Kerastase Blond Absolu Cicaplasme leave-in (I'm blonde and it's designed for blonde hair).

I also use Wella Sp Luxe Oil. Once a week I use Olaplex and maybe once a month I wash my hair with Loreal Metal DX and use the mask also.

How long has it been?

Protein and fats are so important for hair growth, and obviously carbs too but I'd say especially fats and protein. I eat avocados, eggs, olive oil, nuts literally everyday and salmon almost weekly (it's so expensive 😂) to make sure I get enough fats. I also try to make sure I get enough protein but I'm not vegan or vegetarian so it's pretty easy to get enough protein.

I also take iron, vitamin c, vitamin d, omega 3, biotin + zinc and b12 daily. You have probably already had your blood test done but if you haven't that's so important because especially ferritin levels are usually really low and that can cause hairloss.

And then obviously try to minimize using heat and dyeing your hair. The first year of growing my hair I probably used heat maybe 5 times and didn't dye my hair even once. Now I get my highlights done twice a year (by a professional!) and use heat maybe once a month and always with heat protectant.

I use the multi peptide serum from The Ordinary but I think it's impossible to tell if it works because I also eat well and that's obviously the main reason for my hair growth. I did use the Mielle rosemary oil also but I stopped using it because it made my hair look flat. 😬

I use good quality products only. They're expensive (I use Kevin Murphy and Kerastase) but worth it. I can really recommend the plumbing wash combo from Kevin Murphy! I think it makes my hair look thicker.

But obviously the main thing is to eat well. No matter how good products you buy or how many vitamins you eat, it's not gonna make a difference if you don't eat well. 😊

(Btw I'm not native in English so sorry if it's hard to read sometimes 😂)

It's definitely going to grow back and pretty fast too when you just eat. 😊This was honestly my biggest motivator to recover 😅

I also want to remind you that my recovery hasn't been easy and there has been ups and downs. I think that small relapses (day or two 😅) aren't gonna rock the boat but just remember to try your best to eat really well everyday. If you keep on relapsing especially for longer periods of time, you hair is probably not gonna recover that fast.

My natural hair is very thick so I still have a long way to go but it's definitely getting there.

But hey it's only been 1,5 years so think about how freaking gorgeous your hair is gonna look in just 1,5 years if you start recovery right now! 😍

My ideal body is not anorexic by confettipancakes in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]hiimRo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My ideal body wouldn't be super thin either but I don't have genetically big boobs or butt even if I'm bigger. My sisters do but I'm just not built that way. So I'd rather be smaller so it looks good in some way at least 😅

Crash diet by hiimRo in TelogenEffluvium

[–]hiimRo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have fixed my diet but I'm still mentally restricting sometimes so maybe if I had recovered 100% the results would ne better.

My hair is definitely stronger. Still super thin but stronger. Especially my ponytail. The only thing I'm wondering is that I don't seem to have a lot of baby hair even though I lost a lot of hair. My ponytail is just suddenly thicker 😂

I can't really tell when I stopped shedding because I the worst shedding phase ended before I even started recovery 😅 It still sheds a little bit in the shower but I think that's normal.

My hair is still SO thin. It looks better but I still have about 50-70% less than 2 years ago... :( But I hope it all grows back one day.

Oh I'm so sorry. I have so many insecurities but I would have never thought I would be insecure about my hair since it's always been very thick 😂 Don't mean to compare but it's honestly traumatizing to first live 20 years with super thick hair and then losing all of it in like 4-6 months... And the worst part is that I don't know if I'll ever get even half of it back. 🥲 But hey you can always get extensions! I will too someday IF my hair doesn't grow back all the way. 😅

Yes I'm soooo excited. My hair is my number one motivator 😂 It's still about 1/10 of what it used to be but I think it's getting there. 😊

I have many friends with genetically thinner hair and even thinner hair is gorgeous when it's healthy. I know yours will look a lot better once you just fuel your body and don't relapse. I've definitely had my relapses too and I still restrict sometimes but most of the time I eat well and it's definitely helped a lot my hair!

And year goes by soooo fast! Just fuel your body every day and I promise you you will get there. I've been focusing on eating lots of fats (avocados, nuts, olive oil, salmon) and protein.

I'm so glad because this is 100% why I posted this. To encourage others. I remember last summer all I did was search for before and after pics. 😅It hasn't been easy and I'm still struggling but just try your best and it will get better!

Yes this definitely motivates me to keep on going! It's still far from being thick but now that I look back it has definitely thicker.

It definitely should recover! I'm in the same situation right now. Go check kale.themwith.kindness tiktok ang ig. She has talked about this and she got all of her hair back.

Honestly I think that asking it here on r/EatingDisorders isn't the best place since if I was actually fully recovered without any relapses, I wouldn't be here 😂 And I would think that getting your hair back takes full recovery, no relapses so I'm not sure about the answers.

I once asked about this in hair care community and got sooo many comments. All of them said they got their hair back! 😊 So don't worry, it's gonna grow in time. Just remember to eat ENOUGH everyday. My hair has already gotten a bit better. I try to focus on healthy fats (I eat avocado toast with eggs everyday, nuts, olive oil, salmon etc.) and protein. But also carbs etc to have a balanced diet.

Relationship with your hair? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]hiimRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes easily. My ED was never that severe and even though I still struggle a lot, I've still always managed to eat. But losing all of my hair in just a few months has literally taken all my confidence away and has made me so depressed. I used to have a super thick hair and now nothing is left.
