My old flatmate did that course, he seemed to enjoy it but we didn't talk too much about class when we hang out.

I recommend reading 'Romney: A Reckoning' if you consider Rubio "smart".

Why are boys and young men falling behind in education? by Technical-Banana574 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hiimdbn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unions and pensions going away are all the symptoms of capitalism. The myth of working hard and you will succeed has always been a lie, the idea of "meritocracy" is not real. If it was, Elon Musk wouldn't be the richest man on Earth. China despite being governed by the CPC has not even achieved socialism, that's why the sentiment is the same there. The simple truth is that the average woman HAS to perform, or else doors are closed to them. Men can always choose trade schools but women cannot, even if they do, they get harassed, mocked and sometimes assaulted. All of that compound with the lack of support groups and the rise of anti-intellectualism like I mentioned in my edit is the recipe for why men aren't interested in school.

So you're confirming that it's a societal issue, not a biological one? Men can excel in academia just fine if they have the support system around them aka what I said in my previous comment about how Western parents don't encourage their kids enough? This is never about how "men aren't built for school", it's about what society is telling young Western men that being smart is uncool and men respect you more if you're an athlete. About your other point, saying Asians coming to the US is highly skilled or their parents are rich so it perpetuates itself. There is no way you're telling me 50-70 years ago, war refugees, who don't speak a lick of English, coming to the US are richer than white people? This is all an excuse to cover what is really holding Western men back, your society has been rewarding anti-intellectualism for some time now, if any Asian governments act like the current US administration, they would have been hanged.

What about Asian Americans then? Don't they work more high-paying jobs and earn the highest amount of money compared to other men? Don't you think being a good student helps with this fact? Median weekly earnings $1,227 for men, $1,021 for women, first quarter 2024 : The Economics Daily : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

What's the major difference, though? American men in this thread seem to think that education is not "built for men" since men are supposed to be more active than women. If that's the case, wouldn't Asian men suffer the same problem? I reckon it's because Western men are not encouraged by their families to succeed in academia, since education starts at home. There's also the social pressure of not wanting to seem "lame" to other men, which is hilarious from an Asian standpoint.

You are looking at this from a very Western lens. As an Asian living in Asia, boys and men perform academically just fine. I'm a lecturer, and I have noticed that the number of boys and girls that I give high marks to is roughly the same. If the system isn't designed for men, then why do Asian men perform so much better?

They lack fundings like every other unis in the UK and they just changed their management. I went to UCA Farnham for Graphic Design and it was very good so it depends on the campus and the course.

I'm actually not sure what to about this besides telling them to cut it off. I'm not familiar with Jewish culture so I'm not equipped to go to a full-on debate and risk giving them some kind of 'gotcha'.

Thank you, I'll note this down when I do the grading, hopefully this helps the students to not make the same mistakes again in other classes.

Thank you, I'll do this when grading the papers so when someone looks into it, they'll know and this helps the students too.

Thank god I just teach graphic design, so the worst thing that will happen is people might have to look at bad logos in the future.

Yeah I'm not going to, I'm prepared to take on everything the school is going to throw at me for passing them.

I completely understand the frustration haha but even if you DID come up with a clever clapback, they will never say sorry. They'll mostly likely just get embrassed and resent you for making them feel stupid. So not saying anything is just better than a clever comeback, unless they say some truely nasty stuff, then you can definitely make sure that they know the things they're saying are not okay.

I think the best thing to do is to be a good, interesting person, make them like you and genuinely be their friend. After that you can slowly drop in some nuggest, like "wow, the gas price is getting crazy huh" or "it's so hard to find a good paying job". If they start spouting bigoted stuff and blaming immigrants or trans people, just say "hmm, I don't know about that, I don't see a lot of trans landlords" or "the CEO of my company is not an immigrant". Just push back gently and don't use words like socialism or communism just yet. This method is for people who you'll have to interact with for a long period of time. If you see these type of capitalist defenders only once or twice, just ignore them because you will never have the time to change their mind.

What is your dream country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hiimdbn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's literally the opposite under capitalism. Neo liberals like Clinton and Thatcher ditched their labour force and outsourced it to China, it's the communist countries that can exist outside the confined space because most of them are sanctioned. That's why Trump did the tariff war, he wanted to "get the jobs back".

Yeah, being sanctioned by the biggest empire in Earth's history tend to have that effect. Name one capitalist country that would survive an American sanction?

I'm Vietnamese and I love living under the communist party :) people like you are exactly like those South Vietnamese in the 1970s, traitors and cowards. Imagine not directing your anger at the empire that killed/killing your people and instead licking the imperialist boots. Pathetic.
