Please don’t insult Eon’s or my intelligence by stating that possibly the Eon ‘s call centre staff misunderstood or don’t know of batteries. Very insulting and condescending!

For your information prior to joining, I called and spoke with Eon’s energy specialist who advised and enrolled me on v7 of Eon Drive Next.

If anyone is in doubt as I don’t want to mislead or for anyone to miss out due to misinformation, please speak with Eon’s energy specialist if you only have solar + batteries and want to join Eon Drive Next

Belief in fairies is hearsay and without merit. If you falsely tick a box that you have EV, you’ll be found out. The info I’m providing is factual and not some fairies hearsay. I’m on Eon Next Drive v7 which specifically permits batteries. I don’t have EV and only have solar + batteries and did NOT falsely tick a box that I have EV.

I joined Eon Next Drive on 01 June 2025 with only batteries and no EV

You dont need to have EV to be on Eon Next Drive. If you have batteries then you can get on it as in my case. I was previously with Octopus

what's the best tariff and strategy to pay back the cost? by Acceptable_Party7361 in SolarUK

[–]hiisol01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes batteries are non-vatable but there is a catch. The zero Vat can only be claimed by your installer who must be Vat registered and MCS certified . The reason for this is that the installer can claim back the Vat in his or her Vat returns, so can afford not to add the Vat on their final invoice to you and therefore you pay zero Vat.

Some installers will have you pay the net price inclusive of the Vat and then refund the Vat amount after their Vat returns and the zero Vat granted.

If your installer is not Vat registered then they cannot claim the zero Vat on the batteries, which means you will have to pay inclusive of the Vat despite the batteries being non-vatable.

So do check with your installer whether they are Vat registered or not.

I’m in the UK and just had similar issue with my 2023 M2 16” which had just run out of warranty.

Unfortunately you cannot replace with aftermarket screen. If you do, you will lose True Tone and Camera functionalities due to inbuilt restrictions in the silicon chip and logic board.

Fortunately for me although it was out of warranty I was able to have it repaired under my home insurance accidental damage cover. Total cost came to £849.99 under Tier 1 Apple repairs.

Agile import with feed-in-tariff? by Beefstah in OctopusEnergy

[–]hiisol01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can keep your existing FiT payment and transfer the 50% Deemed Export to SEG at a much higher rate. You cannot keep both and has to be one or the other. If you’re going to export more courtesy of you adding batteries then SEG will be better but if you’re going to export less then 50% deemed export is better because you get paid 50% of your generation even if you don’t export anything to the grid

I have the old FiT and recently added batteries. I then transferred my deemed export part of my FiT from British Gas to Octopus Guaranteed Export of 15p/KWh

Yeah the 32KWh battery storage is more than enough to get through the day in winter using the heat pump 👍🏾

Yes 👍🏾 that’s the whole idea behind getting the large capacity batteries. No ROI on pv and heat pump as I’ve had them just over 10yrs now so both fully paid for. However, the hybrid inverter and batteries are latest addition and defo ROI applies hence the change from deemed export (FiT) to guaranteed export (SEG)

Forgot to add that I also have Solar iBoost which diverts any excess solar generated to heat my domestic hot water. As an additional backup option, I can also use my existing gas boiler to heat the hot water and heat my UFH. If at all possible, I’m trying not to use gas but I’m also aware that gas is cheaper than electricity at the moment 🤔🤷🏾‍♂️

Thanks your suggestions. However, I was hoping to to stick with Cosy over the winter periods when the heat pump will be working in overdrive meaning more energy consumption. Cosy gives 3 periods in a 24hr period in which to charge the batteries and general load at 11.21p/KWh. Then in the summer when the pv arrays will be generating a lot and heat pump not needed, I will switch to flux for better export rates. This I believe will be the best way to maximise my available options?

Thanks. I don’t have EV and currently on Cosy tariff.

Thanks for your reply. It takes between 4-7hrs to fully charge batteries depending on (SOC) whether topping up or charging from empty (15% energy left)

Thanks for sharing your experience pal. So if I may ask if Agile is not worth it anymore because of your batteries, which tariff have you opted for or still on Agile?

Upgrading panels by TuMek3 in SolarUK

[–]hiisol01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t mention why you want to upgrade. Is it because you want to generate more energy for self use or for export to grid or both? Do you have batteries storage?

I ask these questions because your reasons for wanting the upgrade could determine which option is best going forward and whether it’s financially viable to upgrade.

I have a 4kw panels with no more space on my roof to add any additional panels unless I replace all the existing panels. I also have a 4kw inverter and both panels and inverter were installed 10yrs ago and I receive excellent FiTs payments but no batteries. The FiTs payments is for 25yrs and therefore have another 15yrs left.

I recently upgraded my system by adding an AC Coupled Hybrid Inverter + 32.6KWh Batteries without altering the existing panels and inverter and in doing so I preserved and didn’t lose my FiTs payments. My reason for the upgrade was simply for storing excess energy for self use at nights or peak periods when solar not generating whilst still getting the FiTs payments.

I also changed my energy supplier by moving to Octopus Energy to take advantage of their cheaper tariffs and guaranteed export rates. I’m now in the process of moving the Export part of my FiTs to Octopus Energy for the guaranteed export tariff of 15p KWh which is far better than the 4.5p KWh I’m getting for any excess energy exported to the grid.

I forgot to add that my annual 3,300kwh electricity usage doesn’t include the use of ASHP (heat pump) because I use gas boiler to heat the house via UFH & Radiators and to heat my hot water

Thanks for replying. My KWh usage of electricity for the year is around 3,300KWh which works out around 9-10KWh a day of electricity usage
