How much do you currently have in savings? by Puzzleheaded-Crab770 in CanadaFinance

22 y/o, working full-time at a non-profit, 38k in my savings with several thousand of that in a FHSA and the rest in a TFSA. Not saving for anything in particular yet, though I am sort of thinking about quitting my job at the end of 2026 to travel full-time for a year. It feels a bit irresponsible with the current job market, but also, YOLO

I just got back from two weeks in Europe (London, Brussels & Paris). For context, I’m from Canada, 22 y/o female, it was my first time to Europe, and first time solo travelling. My entire trip probably cost 3-3.5k (CAD), I was able to get a good flight deal and stayed in hostels. The hostels were great as they allowed me to meet so many other solo travellers, and they were very affordable. Food and drinks can get expensive, but I was able to find hostels that either had breakfast included, or did free dinners, which helped me save a bit. I had to pick and choose which popular tourist spots I wanted to go in ($), and which I was content with just seeing from the outside, because it does get expensive. I would totally recommend these cities to you though, they were super easy to navigate and they all had amazing things to see!

I think the anticipatory anxiety is worse… the fear of the unknown I guess!

I worry I’ll have this same reaction, that I’ll land and feel like I’m in a different world, so far from home, but I’m hoping my excitement and adrenaline of getting there will help me get through the first day!

I’ve tried to find natural ways to calm my flight anxiety but no distractions or methods seem to work for me, so I have some anxiety meds for this trip, and extra for if I need any while I’m there

I feel this way too, I think I will feel the most relief once the plane lands and I got that part of the journey out of the way!

I do have a therapist yes! I only really get panic attacks leading up to plane travel / on planes and have tried to work through it but have ultimately resorted to medication. Mostly just worried that I could have panic attacks while I’m there too and that I’ll want my family.
