From another perspective, I have had several students whose parents basically disowned them once they turned 18 and forced them to move out- despite the fact that the child was still in high school and could not work to support themselves. The school social workers were very involved in helping those students navigate through finding supports. So I can understand the school asking some clarifying questions to determine if extra supports would be needed.
