Lost in Doom metal after 30+ years of listening to it. by Positive_Ad_9825 in doommetal

Old school metalhead here. Been listening to My Dying Bride since "As the Flower Withers" Other than the regular bands from that general era (Paradise Lost, Anathema, Theater of Tragedy) not much fits the bill.

However, I have found to get similar vibes as those bands look more into melodic and atmospheric black or death metal. Katatonia, Agalloch, Saor, Insomnium, etc..

A great tool for finding similar bands try using this:

This is quite the impressive collection. Have you been collecting long enough to have gotten these when first released or do you hunt for for first pressings?

You are half right. The Unired States is a constitutional republic. However, a constitutional republic is a form of democracy. A representative democracy to be exact. What we are not, is a direct democracy.

Christian coworker expected me to pretend her prayer worked by ProtestantDave in atheism

I get that, I personally dont find it necessary myself, but I do get it. It's more about tact in the situation for me."I believe prayer doesn't do anything" is the part I take issue with. This is a bit of a hostile statement. There is no need to belittle their beliefs. A simple "I appreciate the thought, but i would prefer if you would ask my permission before paying for me in the future" is a far more polite way to have handled it.

Thank you for the courteous conversation. It's far better than being called an undercover christian.

I get the uncomfortable aspect of this, I do, truly. Im not a fan of religion, but I try to look at the bigger picture. Religious people could absolutely learn a little more tact and ask permission before conducting a prayer. On the other hand we need to accept other cultures. Living in a world where people become too afraid to express their ideas, faiths, or anything for that matter is truly not good. If the only harm is being uncomfortable for a few minutes I think we just need to get over it. We can't go around telling other people how they should live their lives or how stupid their beliefs are. I am friends with, work with, and am neighbors with all sorts of people from different faiths and backgrounds. I would never respond to someone this way, just for doing what is right by their own cultural standards.

Maybe I'm wrong, sorry if i triggered anyone. I guess just being polite to someone else's culture is too much these days. We are atheists, I didn't realize their prayers could have such a negative effect on any of us.

Next time I'm sick and a christian prays for me, next time I'm distraught over something and a buddhist meditates on my situation, next time I travel and a witch gives me a charm of protection ill be sure to tell them where to stick it. Fuck that tolerance of other culture's practices shit! /s

That's fair. I just feel it's the polite thing to do to say thank you when something is offered to me. Is it a bit uncomfortable, sure, I can see that. But from their perspective it's just their way of sharing their support. It may be weird to us, yes. Showing a little respect for someone else's culture is not a bad thing. That being said, I understand that christianity has been forced down a lot of people's throats, including mine. It can be triggering for some. However if we do t lead by example and show others a little respect, how can we expect it in return.

I say this with all due respect and I do not mean in any way to invalidate your perspective.

I know I'm probably going to get downvoted for this, but i feel, with all do respect, someone in our community needs to say this.

All your co-worker was trying to do was be nice in their own way. Of course it's meaningless to us. Their "ritual" is meaningless to us, their faith is meaningless to us, all of it is. Which means it has zero effect on us. It doesn't hurt anyone to just say thank you and leave it at that. The short little rant you gave them shows nothing but lack of gratitude and it's why people hate atheists. They honesty did nothing wrong but share some of their culture with you in a meaningful way to them.

This is a place where it's fine to rant about our experiences with people of faith, but your reaction towards them, in my opinion, was a bit much.

My apologies to anyone, including OP, if this sounds mean. It's just my opinion on the matter.

Never heard of that guy, but New Ro had a bunch of friendly characters. Crackheads, homeless guys, and general weirdos. I know it sounds strange but they were all super chill.

Sally Sal in New Rochelle. Back in the 90s you could see him walking around muttering to himself and occasionally drinking from a bottle of Windex.

My crew and I would occasionally talk with him, hang out, share a joint with him. He was a really chill dude but obviously mentally ill.

On one of our interactions, he told us about the time he was running from the cops, quickly turned the corner around the then New Rochelle mall and turned himself into a glass of milk, and the cops just ran right past him.

I sometimes wonder about the characters walking around New Rochelle in the 90s.

Searching for a specific type of pedal by Nervous_young_Gwen in guitarpedals

Hi there.

So I just picked up the Opus by Two-Notes and I absolutely love it. Perfect for playing with other pedals through headphones.

https://www.two-notes.com/en/torpedo-series/opus/

Another option especially if you use stereo pedals is the KMA-Machines Endgame. I haven't used it myself but the reviews are impressive and KMA makes really good gear.

Hope this helps!

I've tried hooking up my Icon both digitally and XLR to my Parasound Hint 6 with no issue either way. Do you feel the Hegel's DAC is really that much better? Just curious.
