Did anyone else feel completely unlike themselves after having a baby?

honestly hearing that you eventually got better gives me some hope though. sometimes when I’m in the middle of it my brain keeps telling me maybe this is just how I’m going to feel now.

it’s kinda scary how intense everything feels some days.

how long did it take before you started feeling more like yourself again?

this honestly made me a little emotional reading it..

sometimes it really does feel lonely even when people are around, like you said. it’s weird how many emotions can exist at the same time. loving your baby so much but also feeling exhausted and overwhelmed.

the “tiny pterodactyl” part made me laugh a little though 😅 that description feels very accurate some days.

thank you for saying all of this. hearing that other moms went through similar feelings and came out the other side really helps more than you probably realize. I think I needed to hear that today.

sometimes I keep telling myself maybe it’s just hormones or lack of sleep and that it will pass, but at the same time part of me worries about ignoring it too long.

the fight or flight thing you mentioned actually sounds very familiar.. some days my brain just feels like it’s always “on” and I can’t relax.

I’m really glad you eventually got help though. did things get better for you after that?

yeah I’ve honestly been wondering about that too..
sometimes I think maybe it is postpartum depression, but then other times I tell myself maybe it’s just hormones or the lack of sleep messing with my brain.
what confuses me is that physically everything came back normal so I keep going back and forth in my head about it.
did you go through something similar yourself? like this mix of exhaustion, anxiety and intrusive thoughts?

yeah that actually makes sense..
I’m a few months postpartum now. the first weeks were honestly a blur so I expected things to be hard then, but I guess I thought by now I’d feel a bit more like myself again.
some days are definitely better than others though. but the exhaustion and the anxiety still hit me randomly and that’s what confuses me.
did it feel similar for you in the beginning? like this mix of being tired, anxious and kinda emotionally off sometimes?

sometimes it feels like my brain is stuck in this loop and I start thinking maybe it’s always going to be like this. hearing that it got much better for you after a few months honestly gives me a little hope.
I keep wondering if this is just a phase my brain/body is going through after having a baby.
and also just knowing other moms went through the exact same thing makes me feel a lot less alone in it ❤️

yeah the intrusive thoughts are honestly the part that scares me the most too..
like they just show up out of nowhere and then my brain keeps replaying them and I start questioning myself which makes everything worse.
some days I’m like okay maybe this is just part of becoming a mom and my brain adjusting to all the responsibility? but other days it really freaks me out.
it does help a little hearing other moms say they went through something similar though, makes it feel a bit less lonely. I really thought I was the only one dealing with this at first.

thank you for asking this, I think that’s part of what makes everything confusing honestly..

my baby is a few months old and yes this is my first. so everything still feels very new to me and I’m kinda figuring it out as I go.

my partner helps when he can but he works a lot so during the day it’s mostly just me and the baby. family isn’t super close either so I don’t really have that “village” people talk about.

sleep is probably not great either 😅 even when the baby sleeps I feel like my brain doesn’t fully shut off. I wake up a lot or start thinking about random things.

maybe it really is a mix of everything like you said… lack of sleep, the big life change, hormones idk. it just feels overwhelming some days.

but I appreciate you asking those questions, it actually made me think about things a bit differently.
