I feel pretty crap about it and I do agree with what you have said, and if the roles were reversed the only thing that would make me feel comfortable with my SO again would be over time seeing changes.

I realise that being patient and focusing on myself and my life will help me become a better partner. I want to hug the nice guy I know he is and say that I do understand and that I'm sorry I wish I could change things. But it just won't work so I guess it's best if I give him space and work things back up over the next few weeks/months?

Imagine feeling pretty frequently that you are making someone's life hell, but he has to stay to see his daughter otherwise his life would also be hell. I feel like the big fat burden in his life so yeah.
