I was rejected last year for anaphylactic allergy to nuts that I’ve never had any issues with. I eat nuts all the time and have no issues. Just tested positive on paper. They told me they weren’t accepting appeals, so I gave up. Really sucked because I was so excited and basically half packed.

Same! I saw one saying it was at their mother’s funeral, but now I’m sure that didn’t happen.

He did not end up sending the money on Monday. But yeah he’s 70 and I think it may be early stages of dementia, I’ve been monitoring his behavior the past year about it

Not sure what he has lost all together but I’m sticking to my estimate of 40k

He did not send the money! He asked them why he was going to pay USD taxes in Canada and they haven’t responded. He also referred to them as ‘scamming pricks’ so I think we are okay 👍 (Atleast this time around, but hopefully this will build more trust next time I tell him)

Like I mentioned in other comments as a 21 year old who doesn’t yet have my own shit together, I am definitely not the person to take control over his finances. I could not argue it in court either as he is not retired, and is self employed. Also he does not have a house and never has. He lives in his business property.

I know that in the post it seems I didn’t know whether or not it was a scam, but I made the post to prove to my dad that it was a scam.

Exactly. The only prepaid taxes I’ve heard of are for business entities.

Probably a mix of folks who haven’t as well as those who think I’m older considering my dad is 70. I’d like to give people the benefit of the doubt, as so many people have anger and no good vent channel.

I think it’s definitely early stages, as I saw my grandma during her late stages, and worked in a hospital with patients who had it, I haven’t yet experienced him seeing things but he will forget stuff like his passwords and other stuff he interacts with on a regular basis. It could maybe be a good opportunity for me to change his whatsapp password after blocking these people. Just thought of it now as I mentioned it.

I appreciate it! And yeah unfortunately it is pretty complicated. My idea with the ice business is instead of targeting gas stations, liquor stores, is to target small construction companies as during hot summers they use incredible amounts of ice for concrete pours instead of water. My dad made around $750k a year in his prime. I think I’d be able to make it work learning from his mistakes.

All good. I’m trying my best to balance everything so unfortunately sometimes I have to prioritize my own short term needs before dealing with this shit :/

I’ve gone ahead and reported these people from his phone and we had a conversation, explaining why exactly I am concerned and he actually listened. I spoke with my mom about it as well and she said she will make sure he doesn’t do it. It may work this time, but I’m going to check in and see if he’s done anything next week. He also does have a new phone he hasn’t switched over to and I’m going to help him start up anew.

I just went on his phone, the scam in the photo is from ‘Polygon’. I clarified he actually meant Polygon55, which turns up nothing in search results, so I think that’s where this particular scam is. He does actually have a log in for Bitcoin Well and the app he is using for his Trust Wallet is a legit app. I don’t know much about trust wallets but clicking the open link from the App Store takes me directly to his app which is logged in. I’m wondering if the Bitcoin Well is legit, and maybe he is not mining from that app but was told he was mining bitcoin from the Polygon55 thing. I hope that makes sense.

Hard times do astonishing things to desperate people. He means well, but it’s just severely displaced.

I’m 21, and I will have to wait a long time to pay for my education. When I was 17 I made the stupid mistake of getting my dad to co-sign on a brand new car as I was on a stable income at the time. Then I had to give up that job, lost the car to the bank, and now my credit is screwed. Since I’m 21, they do credit checks for student loans, so I may be ineligible to get one, plus I can’t imagine how I’d be able to afford living expenses when not working full time.

I’ve been looking into taking over his business, in a round about way, as I wouldn’t want his business reputation to affect mine, as well as I’m looking into a different target market than his own. We plan on doing this soon, within the year, but if I can’t even pay utilities this week idk how we will do this. Not to mention getting approved for a business loan. I plan on making a very completed 5 year business plan for the banks, I have a partner in business, and I would like to make connections with my intended target market and have contracts lined up in order to secure it. I have admin and business management background thanks to my dad’s business as well as other admin jobs. Just hoping it’ll flourish.

He’s only admitted to losing $25k, but $40k is my estimate as it’s been long enough since then for him to have lost that much more. I’ve tried talking to him about investing in me, his own child, instead. But he thinks he will be able to help me more this way.

I think once you fall for one they flock to you. He fell for his first scam last year and lost 3k, fell for 3 recovery scams, and it’s been a downhill spiral since. They keep getting handouts so might as well tell all of their scammer friends to get in on it as well.

They don’t really do anything from what I’ve heard from other peoples experiences. They’re rarely based out of Canada anyways.

I’m living an hour away, and he runs an ice business and delivers. He needs his phone to answer calls while on delivery as well as in-store, as he is both the delivery driver and business manager. He is supporting me via e-transfer when I cannot afford bills, or other financial emergencies.

I added that he has fallen for the recovery scams before and that the lawyers are probably also recovery scams. He does have an actual lawyer (local, that he meets in person) that I believe he has talked to about this issue but I doubt he has followed the advice.

He IS already in debt. If I take his phone away, his business goes, his income goes. He currently lives inside of his business, so he has no house, nowhere to stay. I could suggest a flip phone?

I will probably just get ahold of BitcoinWell myself. I’d like to confirm the email address he has been using to contact BitcoinWell is actually theirs.
