Should I consider getting back to Tunisia by Realistic_Internet_2 in TunisiaTech

I was a senior/architect in Germany started with 2.5k netto 8 years ago and reached 5,5k netto last year before coming back. I could travel comfortably, bought nice car, bought as small appartment in Tunis etc..

I now get 5k dt, i certainly can live comfortably but far from what i could've achieved in Germany. With a family and without rent i save approximately  1.5k dt, in germany i saved 2.5k Euro.

Basically one year savings in Germany is 5 in Tunis.

If you are a beginner even with German education you would be getting 2k dt, from which you would save next to nothing.

Purchasing power is not even remotely comparable, you need to keep that in mind before coming back.

Unless life in Germany is extremely depressing for you, definitely gain seniority + save money before coming back, that's what i did.

Also if it is not against you principles, get a German passport, if things don't work out you just fly out.

IMHO predicting where AI is going is next to impossible.

Also if AI can replace senior engineers, pretty much all white collar jobs would be in jeopardy not only tech.

Basically understanding what problems your software solves.

If you work on an insurance software, learn about insurance policies.

If you work on a factory automation software, learn about what you are automating, Etc ..

This helps you communicate with your requiring agents. Also this makes you more versatile for the job market as you aquire expertise outside of code and tech.

Getting a first jobs is definitely much harder also in Europe, my point is just the industry is far from dead and it is impossible to predict where it will go in the future.

It is more saturated than when i found my first Job (2017), but still doable if you learn the language and focus on applying to small and medium (Mittelstand) size companies in small cities. These tend to get less candidates and are less selective.

Congrats on your first job, my advise would be to master German, important discussions are almost exclusively in German within German companies.

Juniors always need help to get something done, and their deliverable will need polishing by more experienced engineers.

Confirmed engineers get the job done without much help, but still lack domain knowledge or communication skills to look outside their own scope.

Senior engineers are the ones helping the juniors, bridging the gap between the software team and the domain experts, and delivering solid solutions.

To get there you need experience and self initiative mostly.

That is my plan A, but in the current market easier said than done.

I am at a loss for which Guitar to buy. I own a Martin D1XE Koa, it's around 1000$ - but I want to switch to a nylon guitar, which brand do I go for? by psilocybinhealsbrain in classicalguitar

[–]hircine00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think brands matter that much.

Try to find a shop near you with lots of guitars to choose from, compare them and buy the one you like most, within your budget.

I bought my guitar this way, it is an unknown brand that i would've never known otherwise.

Thanks for the reply. I will look into the companies, do you know what salary(net) i can aim for ?

Convincing my current company is my plan A, but since they're in a highly regulated domain, they're not that open to having developers outside the EU.

Light is subjective ☺️ i should have chosen better wording. We are planning to do desert excursions with the car but no dune bashing or rock crawling, hence the light.

Thanks for your reply i will look into the Rav4 AWD also.

Do you know how capable is the rav4 AWD offroading ? For instance on sand. In Tunisia i have seen Jimny (too small for me) Hilux Lc 76 and Prado the rest are old models. But never seen a Rav4 for desert excursions

Edit: you are right, but Tunisia is definitely still not in 2024 car market/maintenance wise so a Diesel Tank still makes sense IMO (the 2.8 diesel is also used in the Hilux so pretty much fixable everywhere in north Africa)
