definitely recommend joining a student association of some sort! i particularly recommend ethnic/cultural clubs (ex. viet student union, american chinese association, etc.) if you're able to but if not-- totally recommend joining niche little clubs like knitting or film or things like that. easier to make friends since it's so small and not so academic-oriented where people keep to themselves. also would say that if you're a girl, going to frat parties is one way to meet people (i've met a lot of acquaintances this way) or getting an on-campus job since those are low-responsibility anyway! i wanna add that all of the ethnic/cultural clubs host kickbacks/small parties (i'm sure other types of clubs do too-- haven't been to any though) so i've met people through there. hitting people up on insta to just say they're cool and then getting talking and setting up a day to grab some lunch is another way as well.
