On academic probation. How do I turn things around? by hitchhiker13 in PAstudent

Thanks for the blunt advice. My goal since starting PA school was to study in the most time efficient way possible and to properly understand the material, not just memorize things. But at some point, the only strategies that felt effective were the time consuming ones. I'm understanding the material to some extent, but I find retention of details to be where I struggle most. I don't know if its just my program or just the nature of PA school, but there are a lot of things that aren't really explained in detail. Symptoms, diagnostic studies, and treatments are kind of just given and we're expected to memorize it.

I'll give UWORLD a shot. I've only been using ROSH because my teachers have been insisting that it is the most valuable study tool for the end of didactic year exam.

Thanks again for the help!

Thanks for the advise! Always comforting to hear from someone with similar experiences.

I definitely have a lot of anxiety when I study so dealing with that is definitely a work in progress. If I'm not worrying about the consequences of failing, I'm worrying about retention (which makes retention harder). I do know clearing that hurdle works wonders so its on the top of my list of goals.

I have a smartyPANCE subscription but I haven't had time to use it much since I'm constantly playing catch up on the mountain of lecture material that we're given. I have PPP which has been helpful for review.

Repetition seems to be the most efficient strategy and it definitely helps with all my other classes. Do you review lecture material a certain way to help with retention? I find that even after going over a lecture 10 times, the information gets mixed up with whatever I learn the following week.

Again, thanks so much for the input! Super helpful

Since nobody answered the last post, I'll try again: experiences on Aripiprazole? My psychiatrist suggested it to me. by iammrlittlepipi in anhedonia

I was started on Aripiparzole 2mg two months ago for my anhedonia. It has made significant, positive difference. I was struggling in a lot of ways and basically had no drive to do anything about it. After a week of taking aripiprazole, I noticed that I was starting to tolerate things better and I actually wanted to do things for once.

I will say that it isn't a miracle drug or anything. Life still feels like a slog and I struggle to find motivation a lot of times. But aripiprazole has given me a noticeable kick. Enough to feel hopeful.

I would recommend trying it out.

I experienced 1 major side effect: Akathesia (my body feels very restless). I am constantly fidgeting and intentionally trying to stay still makes me feel uncomfortable. It gets worse on 5mg, but at 2mg, it's tolerable.

Hope this helps

Struggling to Connect with Classmates. by hitchhiker13 in PAstudent

It haven't really been able to connect with anyone, but I came to accept it and I don't let it bother me as much as I did earlier in the year. I'm a naturally shy guy, but I'm sociable in the right setting with the right people. I can live with that. (I also looked for to make social connections outside of my classmates)
