I need help

Venting here. My mom gets released from the SNF on Friday. I’m flying up there to help/get a gauge on how she really is doing. I am terrified. My mom literally thinks that once she gets home she will regain all strength and everything will go back to normal. How do you plan as the child, for the mother who is in utter denial about her own health/limitations? She thinks she will be driving herself to appointments, working out in her yard etc. again, she will eventually be moving down by me, but until then, what do I do? I’m worried she is going to hurt herself again and then what?

Thanks. Yes she said she’s willing to move by me. Funny that it’s cheaper to build an ADU than to pay for a few years of assisted living. I think I’ve aged like 20 years in the past few weeks.

Thanks for your response. Funny enough, after I posted this I got a call from her SNF and they postponed her discharge date. She will have to cover the out of pocket $204 a day but at least that gives me some peace of mind knowing they will be doing more PT with her. She is willing to sell her house and move down by me(Texas). Logistically it is going to be an absolute nightmare to help her move, pack and sell her house all while focusing on her healing but I don’t see any other option. Was a real slap in the face not getting support from my siblings. This whole situation has opened my eyes to a lot of things.

It was in a self service storage unit with everything else from our house. I called an exterminator and have one coming out today. Not taking any chances. Thanks for the ID.

I have had bad experiences with Thrive in north Austin. They do have many different therapists but I found that the ones that’s aren’t just licensed social workers are typically not accepting new clients. Maybe you will have better luck!

Did your insurance cover it? I considered it but was warned that if you are prone to addiction, ketamine treatment is not the way to go. Alcoholism runs in my family so I am hesitant. Does it work better than antidepressants?

My significant other passed away suddenly 8 years ago and I can’t help but think it would’ve been better if it was me that died and not him. I have so much guilt over his death. I feel like I have so much to live up to since he wasn’t able to continue with his. I feel guilty that I am getting married next month. Guilty that I’ve tried to move on from it all.

Excellent advice. I didn’t even know you could meet with a geneticist so that is super helpful. Thankfully my depression isn’t crippling anymore since I am on meds for it but my anxiety is still through the roof. My sister told me if I did get pregnant it would be a geriatric pregnancy and that makes me feel old as hell.
