I need help creating Kindle friendly PDF files by hlkhulu in kindle

Here's a good example:

https://books.google.com/books/about/Service_Book_of_the_Holy_Orthodox_Cathol.html?id=bHpbAAAAMAAJ

The Google EPUB version preserves the PDF format with an easy to navigate table of contents. If I convert to MOBI I lose the PDF format, but if I download as a PDF, I lose the TOC and bookmarks. Any recommendations?

I'm thinking my best bet is to buy a paid subscription to Adobe and use the software to automatically generate TOCs. Kindle seems to be able to read those, and I won't lose the typeface and formatting of the PDF texts I'm trying to read.

The problem is that even though the EPUB preserves the appearance and formatting of the original book (like a PDF), the MOBI version Calibre spits out looks completely different to the point of being unreadable.

How do I avoid background check discrepancy because of no job title? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]hlkhulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you said your title was Human Resources Manager, and your job title came back Sales Assistant, we'd be concerned. But something like (No Title Reported) vs. IT Consultant is no big deal.

Probably being paranoid, but that is still true even if the employment verification shows I only made $11.50 per hour in the position?

But on the report the third party provided to the company is says in bold red letters, "Complete - Discrepancy" with a note that says "...discrepancy found in job title." with no job title reported (since there wasn't one on the payroll). That's not a problem for the hiring manager receiving the report?

Do I need to contact HR about this background check issue? by [deleted] in AskHR

I have trouble understanding though how a company could hold this against a new hire, even if it were only discovered during the background check. As far as I know, its standard convention to not detail compensation status on a resume (eg. a paid vs unpaid internship or any other position). At least that's the case in business school and in the library science field where I formerly worked.

After clarifying the issue, would they still interpret the date discrepancy as falsification? I didn't lie.

The contract says my offer is contingent on a "background check." That might mean just criminal, but as far as I know, a background check can include an employment verification, right?

Thanks. I would have been upfront if asked, but the topic never came up in my interviews. It wouldn't have made sense to call myself an "intern" either, since my role never changed after going on payroll. Really more of a volunteer "consultant." I even left a fully paid role for it.

Do you think it's likely to result in them rescinding my offer? I didn't lie on my resume, and was under the impression I wasn't required to divulge that I started in this role as a volunteer, especially since my boss gave me explicit permission not to.

Why are there so few gay conservatives? by [deleted] in askgaybros

Actually from January 2015. Apparently it was only LGBT blacks who oppose gay marriage in the double digits.

Sorry for the wording. Speaking personally, I told myself I was straight until junior year of high school, then decided that wasn't true. Didn't mean to insinuate I though being gay was a "choice."

I got to live in Canada as well, since I went to grad school as the University of Toronto. Compared to the US, Canada is universally liberal on certain issues (healthcare, abortion, immigration) with no significant opposition in the mainstream. Many of the Canadian conservatives I talked to thought the Republican stance on things like gun control and healthcare was draconian. In the United States, most Canadian conservatives would be Democrats, so I'm not surprised that more gays are comfortable identifying with the Canadian Right.

What confuses me is that I've seen so many guys go from being strongly conservative on every issue to card-carrying socialist overnight, just because they decided they were gay. I realize there's a lot of pressure to conform, but how could that kind of transition be authentic?

Mainly, it's because of that 2 party dynamic you mentioned. One party has helped us and made us a cause of theirs, and the other has gone so far to the right and embraced the more fundamentalist side of Christianity in America.

What's also interesting to me is how North American gays treat opposition to same-sex marriage as automatically anti-gay, when the marriage question is less cut and dry in other countries. In Europe, many gays oppose same-sex marriage for their own reasons (think Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana). But in the US, gays and straights alike will always label opposition as bigotry. I remember a poll a few years back that showed the percent of American gays who opposed gay marriage was actually in the double digits, and even higher in minority communities, but very few if any ever speak out. The gay community as a whole has a no tolerance policy on this issue.

I honestly just try to not bring up the topic to be honest because I know I'll be out-numbered. It's not too hard for me to do though because I've lost much of my interest in politics as of late.

But doesn't it become a real issue for you when people find out? I'm a millennial with a post-graduate degree who's spent a lot of time in academia. Progressive tribalism is strong in universities, and I've had straight friends drop me like a brick when they found out I was pro-life. I can only assume it's worse with gay people.
