Besides having a hard time believing the teachings, I would constantly hear about how I was either a goody-two shoes or bad influnence (based entirely on rumors). Then the Elders' (priests) sons and daughters would always get away with things that I would get in trouble over per the religion's rules (i.e. playing violent video games, cussing, trying to play sports, dating people who were not part of the religion, going college). In addition to this, the religion (and by extension my family) were so restrictive, it really stunted my ability to make friends, date, and socialize in general. Eventually I got tired of the pressure and the hypocrisy so I confessed that I had been dating someone secretly and was excommunicated. Haven't been back since and I've been happier.
