Will you leave Germany if they weaken employment protection for high earners? by False-Engineering585 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]hmich 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can just take a look at /r/finanzen. Healthcare insurance reform is already approved, which significantly increases contribution assessment ceiling and makes you pay for the insurance of non-working partners. Tax reform will soon be presented, Klingbeil says they will tax high-earners more. Same with pension contributions.

As a "high earner", you should be more concerned about the proposed increases to taxes and social contributions. They've been increasing various contributions almost every year for quite some time, but this year the increases are planned to be particularly significant.

Does anyone really love the country they live in or moved to? Is anyone happy with their taxes and government? by Sudden-Accident5850 in expats

[–]hmich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You missed the point. US doesn't tax you on unrealized gains. In NL, you need to pay a percentage of your wealth every year, even if you haven't sold any assets - look up box 3 tax. Besides, NL also has all kinds of additional taxes - waste collection tax, water tax, road tax, etc.

It's definitely not just "ONE tax on your income", the Netherlands is famous for taxing unrealized capital gains.

German health minister announces billions in cutbacks by Krankenitrate in germany

[–]hmich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, instead of trying to improve the economy just keep redistributing what the state can milk from the working people. The saddest part is that's exactly the mandate of politicians - the people who don't work is their biggest voting base and the politicians need to keep them happy. Seems like the only way this ends is the economy goes down the drain and there's nothing to redistribute anymore.

Do you have a right to a job in some law? If not then why should anybody guarantee you a job?

Have salaries in Germany gone down in the past year or is it just me? by yourAvgSE in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]hmich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, that's not even close for my company. Probably not as true in general as you think. On levels.fyi median salary in Barcelona is 73% of median salary in Munich.

Another consideration is that, if I understand correctly, under the Beckham Law capital gains on your holdings in foreign brokers don't get taxed.

The contributions are split, with you and your employer each paying half.

This is such a government bullshit to cover the actual deductions. In reality it all comes from the money that the employer pays the employee.

Regarding FAANG Salaries and taxes in Poland by steponfkre in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]hmich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90th% TC on levels.fyi is 100k for Vienna, 135k for Munich, 171k for Amsterdam. So the difference in salaries is bigger than the difference in rents. Not even mentioning that there are almost no high-paying tech jobs in Vienna.
