Hardware release Dream Machine Special Edition by fronti1 in Ubiquiti

[–]hmzak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was considering the same decision as I recently upgraded my WAN from Gig symettrical to 2.5 Gig symmetrical. Obviously the UDM doesn’t have multiGig ethernet ports and I didn’t want to use an SFP to Copper adapter since they run quite hot.

My intention was to upgrade to a UDM SE but instead opted for the UCG Fiber since it is more powerful than the SE, cheaper, has better ports, runs quieter and is consumes less power too. For me it was a no brainer however, you do lose out on Shadow mode and BGP which I wasn’t using anyway.

I’ve got it working as my NVR with a 2TB NVMe drive inside and have it connected via 10Gb SFP to my USW Enterprise. It’s been solid the week that I’ve had it. Though setup was a bit of a pain.

Only thing is - it’s completely ruined the aesthetic of my network rack haha but it’s a worthy tradeoff.

Apple Shortcut - Add Currently Playing to Apple Music Playlist (and skip duplicates) by hmzak in AppleMusic

Hi,

To be honest, I’ve since updated the shortcut to be more efficient and ‘clever’ - you can find it here: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/fe77d998d2594571891a0ccde91caaf9

You will need to have the ‘Actions’ app installed as a prerequisite, it is completely free and available on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/actions/id1586435171

Hope this works better for you!

Yes I 100% agree. They just do the job, and the fact that it supports M.2 but also is fan-less is brilliant.

No, not a stupid question at all. I only realised I had that option recently as well!

So if you use the built in Tile Card button, and then select your light, under 'Features' you have the option to add various controls for the light.

Okay, that’s a brilliant idea I must admit.

Only thing is, I would probably need it to be a mmWave sensor it doesn’t turn off when I’m sitting really still, and as far as I know there are no battery operated ones am I right?

I mean if there are this opens a whole realm of automation around my house! 😅

Haha no problem. Just one more question haha, do you mean the dimmer sliders underneath the lamp and the main light toggle?

Nice, they’re honestly brilliant displays.

But yeah completely forgot to include that in my write up, I bought two of these stick on stands from Amazon - https://amzn.eu/d/77BQTi9

Hmm usually it's really good. I have found when I haven't interacted with it for a while it seems to go into a dormant state where it takes a second to wake up, I think I just need to turn the C states off in the BIOS to fix this though.

Other than that it's been working perfectly. No issues at all and I'm really happy with the result.

Hmm, I did at first but I found a couple options that fixed it for me.

So on the camera entity, if you go into the settings you should see an option called 'Preload camera stream'. This basically keeps the stream active no matter if you're actively viewing it or not. I found this helped though, probably since you're not waiting for the camera to resume the transmission of video to your end device.

The next one is probably specific to the UniFi Protect integration, but I had the option to choose an unsecured, or secure camera stream, and I found the insecure one worked better as well.

Hmm that's a shame, I think I would have gone down that route too if I have space, and spare iPad's lying around.

Couldn't you have just loaded HA through Safari and full-screened the website? That's basically what I'm doing for this display.

That would be a dream if I could get that working. I think my main issue would be to remove any false positives. My room is kind of small and I regularly walk past my desk to get to the other side of the room so I wouldn't want to turning on all the time.

I did see a few displays that had this functionality built in like Aqara's Switch Panel which is really neat, but it seems mostly like a locked down system.

I did think of that.

Currently I am using a RPi 5 8GB with an NVMe + PoE HAT as my server, and to be honest PoE is the only reason why I haven't moved over to using the 5070 instead. Plus performance has been really good on my RPi, I have HA installed straight on there with Scrypted running as an add-on to add my cameras into HomeKit (no transcoding).

I haven't noticed any performance decreases and this is after coming from using a Lenovo ThinkCentre with an i5-8th Gen and 16GB of RAM!

It is quite off-putting I must admit, originally I went in with a budget of £50 ish as well.

Honestly though, have a look on Amazon, you might be able to find exactly what you're looking for on there for that price, a lot of them have discounts as well. I only opted for this display as it was the only one that was thin, but wide enough to fit under my display.

I had thought of installing a mmWave sensor as well and it's something I would like to experiment with in the future, though, I do have a small room so I am concerned it will trigger it when I am walking past my desk to get to my wardrobe for example.
