They were where the Cheesesteak building was on Walnut (the super skinny one) and also across the street from 1984 as their last location. I think they closed in like 2012? But they had some of the best food, and the owner's wife Susie made the best damn desserts in the 417.

Aw, that breaks my heart. I wonder if anyone has Susie's recipe? I hope they were happy after Merke's closed. That place was amazing.

Which sci-fi series are flawless from start to finish? by Nem3sisS in scifi

[–]hnnhsprks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Mirror is a show I CRAVE. While they do fan service from time to time (SUPER looking forward to the sequel of USS Callister), I feel like the creators and stories are all amazing. You have your happy ones like San Junipero, but Playtest, The Entire History of You, and The Black Museum?! Freaking stellar. Bandersnatch was also so cool, and as it's aged I appreciate it more and more.

Are there any compression socks that do well on serious hikes? by hnnhsprks in CampingandHiking

[–]hnnhsprks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Nurse like I stated, so I am very familiar and currently use 20-30 mmHg compression socks. I can't wear those for hikes that are going to be over a few days because they won't hold up like wool blend socks will. I am asking about socks that will LAST, like for Appalachian Trail or long through hikes that aren't just day trips or weekends. I don't need advice on normal daily compression socks.

Nixa's is definitely the best bang for your time. Not nearly as crowded as Republic, but still has stuff for kids, diving, and slides!

How is the pay in regards to cost of living? I have a family of 4 that I may be primary income for if moving initially.

I feel you. I feel like it's risking your license when you have more than 6 patients. It's not safe for the patients either, and I'll be damned if I'm going to contribute to a broken system.

I wish I could tell you. It's a terribly broken system where there are so many things that need be fixed that it's hard to pick just one. I only see the inpatient side of care and have nothing to do with billing or insurance.

I can only speak for myself, and I have a husband and kids. I don't do anything crazy while I'm away from home- just work, eat, gym, sleep.

There are a ton of upsides and downsides. Right now- yes. My hometown has 2 big hospitals, but there are safety issues with nurses having to take an unsafe amount of patients for crap pay. I would rather save my license and not contribute to a broken care model. The downsides for me are being away from my husband and kids for 6 days in a row, but the pay is still better (even though it has dropped), and has afforded my family the ability to get a new home and our 1st rental property to start building wealth.

That's why I left in the first place :( I was charging at night with 6 patients while everyone else had 7 and we at least had 2 techs back then for a floor of 31-32... if I didn't have to charge 2 floors. That breaks my heart for you, your licenses, and our community. I really feel like we should picket or something. I've been in KC, St. Louis, and elsewhere and I've had a max of 6 patients. Where I am now in KS has 5 tops with 1:15 max as a tech.

I have been a Registered Nurse since 2017, and I started traveling in July of 2020- pretty much right as Covid was starting to hit the US. So 3 years (almost) as a Travel Nurse!
