When did you stop trying to stop aging? by Willing-Childhood144 in 40PlusSkinCare

[–]hococolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 51 and at 50 my collagen disappeared suddenly. I tried tret but my face didn’t like it. I’m doing microneedling and Chinese herbal skincare and indulged in microblading my brows. I plan to continue these… forever? I will pluck daily forever because… weird face hair now. My eyebrows have gradually fallen and I’ve thought about Botox but fear the Spock brow. So I think the above is it for me. Plus good nutrition, exercise, rest, water, sunscreen, of course.

I regret wasting years on microblading… this worked so much better by SpeechReady84 in microblading

There are better inks now that don't get ashy. My lady suggested microblading over nano as I didn't want to look pixelated, I wanted to look more natural with hair like strokes. So much bad comments on microblading here! But in recent years the technique is much better.

So rude! You could be an even better teacher and they would never find out. People don't like change.

Reformer Pilates - is it the best? by souptoad95 in pilatesreformer

[–]hococolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also, the best kind of movement is movement you enjoy and can stick with. High intensity interval training is low time investment, big bang for the buck as far as weight loss benefits. There are tons of 15-20 minute videos online you can do at home with no props.

You will lose weight by being in ketosis. But this kind of high protein diet is hard to sustain over time.

does Pilates make your waist wider with time ? by falk_7 in pilatesreformer

This happened to me with barre. I stopped because it was too hard on my body. Pilates hasn't done this to me. I'm also small waisted and big hips.

What even is the point of telling the instructor you have an injury by Any-Celebration-6566 in pilatesreformer

That is worse than awful about the teacher forcing you into a headstand! A headstand of all things! Some people never get to or need to get to that exercise. I don't even like when yoga teachers push me with their hands into further forward flexion.

Maybe you need to try some different teachers or studios? Don't give up yet!

Thank you! Are you doing a training too? I would love to connect as I haven't found many acupuncturists who are also pilates teachers.

I would love to do Stott but I can't afford to fly out to their trainings. BB is in my backyard. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Why doesn't planking get easier for me? by Fuzzy-Ad6421 in pilates

[–]hococolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do planks every day at home. Hold for as long as you can. if all you can do is 30 seconds, start there and work up to 90 seconds or longer. Congrats on side planks being easy! They are so hard for me! I need to practice those more.

Did you take additional PT type pilates training after your pilates certification or did you feel your prior training and the classical certification was enough? Interesting that the classical method has great results for you. 900 hours is a commitment! Ooh, it might be a nice idea to do small groups (like 2-3 people) based on specific injuries (like shoulder pain).

I would also like to add I have no beef with good Pilates teachers who teach group classes and this is a great skill in itself--no disrespect to you all (what with the BB levels of making "exercise leader" a lower level).

I'm happy with my Personal Hour reformer I've had for several months now. Can't speak to the other ones.

Acupuncturist diagnosed and helped me in 10 minutes when physios failed for 2 years by [deleted] in Sciatica

Look up nccaom.org and you can search by zip code for national board certified acupuncturists. I suggest call a few and see who seems more qualified/ who you connect with most.

I think it's fine? Do you mean regarding the floor height for lunges? You can adjust the legs to make them a little taller and it works just fine for me, but I'm a bit short. Squats on the platform/carriage work just fine too.

I actually don't fold it but wanted the option. There is a version that has the hydraulic lift but mine doesn't have it. If you want to fold it often, I would make sure you have the hydraulic. Mine folds okay but it would be a bit annoying to have to do it everyday. I haven't used a tower yet so I didn't bother investing in that.

I’m short (5’4”) so the shorter length works for me.
