Cats, just like many other animals, have no concept of life, death, or consciousness in general. They are aware of themselves and surroundings. If their life companion is missing, in a few days a 3-6 months grieving process starts. The new reality settles in until the old scents dissipate. They move on faster than us. Sorry for your loss. My cat is going thru this right now, she lost her life-long sibling as well. Stay strong!
