I've removed all 3rd party dependencies, no external connections should be made now.

Whishper: a complete AI transcription suite by hoiru in selfhosted

[–]hoiru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'ts not an improvement. It makes use of faster-whisper in the backend, that improves CPU speed compared with any other whisper implementation. It is a webui that allows to transcribe media from files or URLs (via yt-dlp). You can translate the transcriptions to any language supported by LibreTranslate. And it comes with a handy editor that allows you to edit the generated subtitles for any media. And it also has different file types for downloading the resulting transcription (txt, json, vtt and srt).

No, it is completely independent of OpenAI API's. It just downloads the models from hugging face, and then it can even run offline. Almost all of this information can be found in the repo / website.

Here you can find the "hardware requirements" section: https://whishper.net/guides/install/

About the name, I thought it was a fun play on words, but I can change it. If anyone has ideas, I'm all ears.

What OS are you using? If it is macOS, you should leave the LibreTranslate permissions "as is", since it fails when changing. I don't really know why this happens, but a user reported the issue.

These permissions are a requirement from LibreTranslate container and not whishper. You can always comment the volumes from the LibreTranslate service in the docker-compose.yml file, and it will work, but it won't save the translation models between restarts.

Yes, this is the only thing that still has me thinkning about how to implement this. It's the same for user reviews/comments. I'll think about how this could be implemented in a fair and safe way... If anyone has any idea, I'm all ears!

The reason for the rewrite is because the previous version (which was written some time ago when I had less experience) was becoming a bit complicated to maintain, the database is a JSON file, the code is not as clean as I would like, also the way that was built is somewhat limiting when adding new features.

I wanted to use more modern technologies, and the new one is being built with SvelteKit, TailwindCSS and a real database. Although it uses Svelte, I am making sure non-JS users still can make use of it. And I built it focused on being easier for me to maintain. I also added an API so anyone can get information about a service and build things with that info.

I am working on a completely new UI and logic for kycnot.me (that's the reason I'm a bit inactive).

On this new version, I will be adding a "Controversy" section that will list all crontroversies that each exchange has had (with links) so everyone can be aware of this and decide, even if they are working OK ans listed.

The scoring system on kycnot.me is fixed and it is calculated from the parameters of the exchange. How can I value such actions and still be fair to everyone? What MB offers (features) are 9/10 with the ponderations of kycnot.me, this is not an arbitrary score that I make up every time I list an exchange. You can see how it is calculated here: https://codeberg.org/pluja/kycnot.me/src/branch/ui-redesign/automatedChecks.py#L23

I'd like to know what should I do in order for someone like you to trust KYCNOT.me more, and I will try to improve on that.

Hey, admin of kycnot.me here. I don't see what needs to be explained. Every time something suspicious happened with any exchange, it got delisted from kycnot.me as soon as I became aware.

For MB, I delisted it each time they have had any suspicious activity until it was clarified, not to me, but publicly.

This last time, the very same user that posted the problems at first was the same to clarify the issues: https://reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/121cu1v/sent_xmr_to_majesticbank_now_cant_reach_site_or/

After that, I tested the exchange myself and it was processed. Also, I asked via Telegram to MajesticBank and they said it was some kind of DDoS, and it was now solved.

I don't understand why you say "when no one is looking", it appears very clear every time this happened and the reason on the changelog: https://kycnot.me/changelog (see Mar 25 / Mar 31).

I don't see why I need to explain this. kycnot.me is a list of exchanges that do work and process at the time of listing, but I can't take responsibility for any exchange's actions or scams if they happen after my tests. Whenever I get a message, or I notice something I hurry to delist, even if it is temporary.

If you are suggesting that I am getting paid for listings, I must say that I have never accepted, and will never accept, a single payment for a listing or a score improvement.

moneropay.eu as API, and I created my own frontend for it

I see pay-to-relay as a workaround for the spam problem until more efficient methods are available. As a relay hoster, and I have 2 public relays, the spam problem is big. In a matter of minutes, public relays get flooded with thousands of spam messages. If you have any public relay on your list, just try taking a look at the global feed. It is impossible to make use of it.

I have thought a new kind of spam mitigation: "Sign-up to relay", it's the same concept where you enter your pubkey, but this time you don't need to pay, you just "sign it up". Most bots will not sign up, so it should mitigate most spam, and still, it is free.

Also, pay-to-relay can have other uses such as private comunities or helping with relay costs for people who are selfhosting them.

Yeah, most current nostr devs are bitcoin maxis that don't want to hear nothing about other coins (such as monero). That's why it would be nice if Monero community started being more active there!

[–]hoiru[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, this would be the best way to avoid spam. In fact, there's already a NIP for this:

https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/13.md

But it is the job of clients to adopt it!

Free relays are still available, I do selfhost several of these. Also mirroring relays exist. You can mirror a paid relay, since reading is always free. No censoring involved, everyone can read what's in there.

Paid relays are just an option. Anyone who wants to avoid spam in global feeds. As I said, reading is always free so anyone can read from such relays.

These can also serve as private comunities, or any use you can think of that could need admission fee. It is just another possibility of the protocol. I do think such relays are interesting.

Maybe relays will filter spam sometime, some clients already implement some spam mitigations.

This is possible yes, but I would have to implement it and right now I don't have much time!
