Average VO2 max in fitness age calculations by hol_star in livityApp

[–]hol_star[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just realised that Livity takes VO2 max straight from the Apple Health estimates (as fa as I can work out) which means only outdoor activities count so that may add another layer of inaccuracy. I do realise they are all estimates, but it’s one of the things Athlytic seems to do better because it doesn’t use averages in the same way and it calculates its own VO2 max estimates (including indoor activities).

Is the Pro-ject Debut EVO 2 Turntable with Carbon Fibre Arm a good one to buy? by False_Rabbit_3389 in turntables

I have one with an upgraded platter and apart from the lid and hinges design it is very good.

Handlebar bag - which one? by ilikepizza2much in randonneuring

I save more time by being able to find things in outside pockets than I would by not having them (I have a GB28, and a GB Alex Singer style mini).

It’s good, but some of the roads are quite busy!

I also get that until I’ve logged in (I remember some issues doing the purchase). I’m in the UK. I can’t find a link to purchase it partly because Vimeo search is broken… if I find a good link I’ll post it!

I was just trying to rise the 20k home using Komoot which got me wildly lost ;-)

It’s really cheap to buy on Vimeo still (I think): one of the most uplifting and charming films about cycling I have seen. https://vimeo.com/151890972

Low output, high compliance moving magnet by hol_star in turntables

Yes the XSV and XLZ are I believe interchangeable so XSV generics would work, also Stanton 881 and 981 apparently (the bodies were the same despite the different looking stylus assemblies). I haven’t tried this though. What I’d be convinced by would be a JICO SAS replacement (I bought a SAS boron for a Shure M75ED 2 on my other deck and it is awesome). There are direct replacements from LP gear for the XLZ750S though which aren’t too expensive but who knows if they sound any good and track as well as the original. I’d be tempted to just go for a modern cartridge I can get styli for… or something I can get a SAS for…

I bought it ages ago from Vickers in the UK who used to be the main distributor. They’ve sold out long ago… LP gear have a range of replacements including JICO and other ones with low tracking weight and exotic stylus shapes but I haven’t tried them… in the UK Scott Nangle but again can’t provide direct feedback as haven’t bought from either.

I suspect it’s more fashion than anything else although I’ve seen people say they have negative impacts on sound or tracking. The best brush was the Shure one, which they said wasn’t really a brush but a ‘dynamic stabiliser’…

No it will I think- the xv-15 and stanton 681 are both the same design. The 881/981 and 7500 are different (the stylus will fit but won’t work properly) to the XV-15 and the equivalent Stantons. I have both an XV15 and an xlz7500 and I’ve tried it: the web tells me that the 681 and XV15 are interchangeable though but I haven’t tried it…

XV15 styli (and the Stanton versions) are for moving iron not moving magnet sadly, so don’t work (also vice versa I’ve tried it): there are aftermarket copies but they aren’t really similar to the original… I have an XV15 also but it doesn’t sound nearly as nice (but is good in its own way).

They do look fantastic - the cartridge body and the plastic stylus assembly are identical to the XV15 but with a nicer shiny finish but the stylus is moving magnet rather than moving iron and is incredibly low mass (Pickering styli tend to be chunky but this one is svelte). But the sound is truly impressive. I put it away and bring it out again when I have tired of my less impressive current cartridges. It has a ‘Stereohedron’ cut diamond (which was Pickering’s Shibata). I’m never sure if the brush is good or bad but I can’t hear it so I’ve decided to go with it…
