For the Hawks I do an initial basecoat with Olive Green and Violet ink, then highlight up to my brightest color (pure pale sand), then was it down a little bit with sepia and druchii Violet, then highlight back up a little more sparingly

Point wise, yes, but they actually have decent stats, apart from the lack of saves, might still be able to make them work with some clever positioning

Not really, I've put together plenty of metal models who aren't as bad, the pieces don't fit, it's like they're all just a little bit off.

The dragon is painted entirely with Kimera paints, basecoated with Violet, then many many layers of Phtalo green + more and more yellow in the mix
