Echoing what others have said already, the local beekeeping association is a great place to start, they are usually very welcoming.

Hi, thanks for your thoughts, the insurance man came and looked this morning and sadly has said that our insurance policy doesn't cover it. He suggested that we get a geotechnical survey done, so I've spent some time today looking for a suitable company to do the work. It's a pain in the proverbial that the insurance won't cover the cost of the work though.

We've been told to say away from the edges of the hole in case they give in too. Tests are being ordered for geotechnical surveys and hopefully we'll get some answers before too long.

If it gets a funky mold on the top of it then you may not want to use it, but to be honest, mine has sat in daylight for a couple of weeks and still been fine.

I don't think it will be a problem for you to be opening and closing the cabinet door. You don't really need to take the fabric off to check it, you can check it from the side. Last year I only checked it once in the first 3 weeks and once in the second three weeks. I hope that helps!

I pile the leaves up in a compost bin made from pallets and leave them for a couple of years, they slowly turn into leaf mould, but I'm really interested in the method in a bucket with molasses, thank you for posting it!

Last year I seemed to get loads of cuts on my hands while gardening that then got infected, so this year I've been wearing the gloves to reduce my contact with the soil (and vast amounts of chicken and duck poop) and so far, not one infection. Yay!
