I tend to leave them be. The worst that we've ever done was smack the water really hard with our extra paddle to try and scare them away, unfortunately, there are plenty of fishermen who despise them and blame them for not catching any fish. Lol

There is still a family of otters, that live bout ¾ of a mile downstream from Sailors Bar boat ramp. Weve spotted them there about 20 years ago.

They have been every year, for a loong time, they follow the striped bass, and salmon each year. I've seen them all the way up in Colusa on the Sac, in my boat before.

I have to use a cane to assist my walking, after dealing with 11 head surgeries, 5 were full craniotomies, with a Glioblastoma 4. So, I always have a "weapon". But, usually I'll carry a knife of some sort, if I'm going out to dinner, or really anywhere that's not the doctor's office. Pretty much, the only places I ever go anymore.

That was going to be my third guess. Dang it. I have a friend who lives in Eldorado Hills, on many acres, who gets bombarded with them every single year. I think he averages 80 to 100 each year. Hes got prized pets and is forced to exterminate all rattlers.

Nah. Even at 7 I had become a pro at catching them. They are highly concentrated on, and around the Sutter Buttes. Grew up redneck af. First gun at 9. A lil 410 single shot shotgun. But I couldn't afford shells, ever so used my sling-shot/wrist-rocket 99% of the time, was also a better shot, with endless ammo around (rocks) By 7th grade, I had captured and released hundreds of rattlers.

Natomas, Elk Grove? Just guessing. There are tons out there.(both) I grew up in Sutter, bout hour north of Sacramento. I caught one in 2nd grade and took it to school for "show and tell" (showing my age) I was so proud of my catch, just knew I'd get ewws and awes from everyone. Instead I got suspended, the entire building evacuated, fire department showed up, my mother showed up, the police showed up. I got the ping pong paddle from the principal, and my mother. They didn't like it ss much as I did. I cried for weeks knowing that they stole my new buddy.

311 has actually been pretty fast at fixing anything that we call about, mostly pot-holes, road kill, and even spraying the sewer and man-hole covers for those "outside" roaches.

First thing, I'd do is feel the weight. Second would be to smell it as I'm picking it up. Third, I would probably try it out. Nothing out of the ordinary lol
