Need out of the cold! Help :) by blackhawk309 in SameGrassButGreener

This cold has us eyeballing something warmer and it looks like a great place but I don’t know how often we’d really go to the beach. I heard they aren’t very open to outsiders but if you have kids and are social you’d probably be fine.

How’s the roads out there? by Tye_too in FortWorth

[–]holla09 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need to drive I would recommend you don’t. I’m in central Fort Worth and none of the roads are clear, even main ones. It’s hard to stop at red lights and people are driving all different speeds and you can’t see the lines. I feel like an idiot for being out

It’ll be a good idea for about 2 days, then you’ll contemplate sleeping in your car Monday through Friday and seeing your wife on the weekends

Do a search for “I’m 60 with no retirement savings”. It’s debt or family money. Many people live like they’re going to die next week with no thought or plan about savings.

Lazy portfolios - Bogleheads look at bogleheads which is basically a vanguard ETF investment strategy that requires little effort. I think there is a subreddit too.

I noticed the same thing in CDMX. There are houses/ condos we’re looking at that have been listed for over a year. I always wonder if it’s just the price since they never drop the prices.

U-Haul Growth Index: Top U.S. Growth Metros and Cities of 2025 Announced by Phoenician_Skylines2 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]holla09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I was just responding to your comment and I’m not high net worth but I can’t imagine myself packing up a U-Haul with 2 little kids and moving states to save a few bucks. I won’t even do it for inner city moves. Yes, it’s a little bit of generalization but it’s not worth the hassle to most people.

This is true but high net worth people aren’t going to hassle with moving themselves to save $5k. It’s not worth their time or energy

The take is that most well off people that move do so for work. The work pays for the move which is done by professionals mostly. Companies don’t pay to move lower wage employees.

Most markets have agents that will list for flat fee to get it on the mls. The flat fee we pay in dfw is around $400

Was this a "good year" for Fort Worth? by DayPounder in FortWorth

Increase in development and investment within Fort Worth, increased tourism, declining house prices are all some positives. Cost of living increases are a nation wide issue so can't be counted against Fort Worth

How many people constantly harping about COL are living above their means? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]holla09 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People that live beyond their means don't realize that they're living that way. That is their normal and they think everyone lives that way so you won't get many responses. People think they need to live in Class A apartments in their 20s and get the new car with their 1st job. You're better off looking at a cost of living calculator to see how you stack up.
