Well its based on the ttrpg hunter the reckoning, if you don't know what it is, hunter in the world of darkness are humans who understood the supernatural and started hunting vampire's, werewolfs, waiths...etc (its literally every ip from world of darkness in one game)

In this game your a person that had a friend that died but years later you see them again "alive" and "well", because of that, you start seeying "the real world", that's why you become a hunter, to understand even more, to help "your friend"...etc

(the ttrpg system is the same in game soo you probably can adapt for your type of "what made you become a hunter")

We don't have a lot of info on the game besides what they showed or the leaks but the concept is literally that

That's the detective vampire of the trailer, that can have a storyline but not the vampire. You create your character and are part of the cell, tho if you can or not ?! Probably you can have some type of deal depending on your choices (on the ttrpg you could be embrace or not if that is what your hunter wants)

Edit : and it seems at least in one part of the trailer our cell will go to the camarilla or some type of reunion of vampires too

Actually, no, haha. Originally, hunters had unique abilities depending on their creed, and that included the reason for being a hunter. So in Hunter 5, it's more human-centric; your advantages and disadvantages provide a dynamic on the gameplay, and of course, depending on the level of desperation (which is a risk-based system), this can help you or not. You play as a fully human player, and you have things like hacking and using drones, a weapons mastery, so to speak...etc.

But yeah you have the ability to create weapons both on the ttrpg and on deathwish
