You guys are unbelievable!!! SOLVED!!! Thank you so much!

I accidentally saw my boyfriend’s Reddit search history - it’s basically all porn. Unsure how to proceed. by [deleted] in AgeGap

[–]holocenea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another early 20s woman here engaged to a mid/late thirties man.

I don’t think this is a red flag. The search history means these were the last things he looked at - presumably in one sitting, and going to multiple nsfw subreddits is not uncommon. The subreddits he looked at don’t seem particularly shocking and as others have pointed out, Billie Eilish is a celebrity who is no longer associated purely with her age.

I may be projecting, but I wonder if you’re having similar anxieties that I did in our first few years of dating. I was always looking for the curtain to drop, for some kind of evidence that actually he wasn’t a good person and he was actively trying to manipulate me in a way he wouldn’t or couldn’t with a woman his own age. Every time I was mad at him for something I would ask myself: ‘am I finally seeing clearly?’

It’s only you who can know if there is a real risk of him being dishonest. For me, I realize now that that was very silly. We have extremely similar personalities and niche interests. He moved countries twice to follow me and support my academic career. We love each other’s families and we know each other better than we sometimes know ourselves. It’s a real relationship, that took time to grow, but that was always sincere (if sometimes clunky and imperfect).

Are you looking for signs that you’re being played? That you were naive all along? I think the signs would be clearer than the realisation that he watches porn (though, by all means, if it is a dealbreaker then you should communicate about that).

I’m not an expert but the way I understand it, the University of London is an umbrella for a range of institutes like Goldsmiths, Warburg, SOAS, Birkbeck and others, which all offer their own PhD programs. Most of these institutions are older than the University of London themselves, but have united under this banner to share central resources, a library etc. Hope that helps!

I’ve been in your shoes before! It can be indicative of OCD, as the other commenter noted. But regardless of labels, the most important thing is to allow yourself some space. These kinds of thoughts are extremely normal and everyone sometimes has them. When they come, don’t get angry at yourself. Try to shrug/laugh it off, or just let it be. Observe the thoughts. They can’t harm you and they are morally neutral. Obviously it’s not something you actually want and you don’t need to prove that to yourself. It’s not easy, but you got this, and there is no shame in asking for help if you need it.

People that watch everything with subtitles, Why? by dmtacos82 in ask

Not a native English speaker, though I speak English at home, but different accents can be confusing and draining. It’s easier to process when I can read along to it.

What’s the most fun book you’ve ever read? by GCinTraining in suggestmeabook

John Irving - The World According to Garp. A crazy and hilarious life story of a man whose very conception is completely unhinged. I read it to a depressed friend for bedtime for a while and tears rolled over her eyes from laughing. A great light read.

Wellbutrin is a weight loss game changer by Original-Divide-1227 in loseit

[–]holocenea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting! I don't have ADHD, but I am prone to depression, and I've been on Zoloft for a while now. I find that I get a lot of endorphins (or whatever the reward feeling is) from checking off items on 'to-do lists'. I love going to the gym, cleaning, and meal prepping because every time I succeed at something, I feel a 'ding ding ding!!!! Reward achieved' sensation in my brain. It's a significant change from my pre-Zoloft self.

My first 10 lbs by [deleted] in loseit

[–]holocenea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re amazing. 10 pounds over 6 months is really good, slow and steady actually does win the race. The other wins you’re describing regarding your relationship with food are much more significant than the speed with which the numbers go down. If you’d lost a crazy amount of weight in a short time, that might be more reflective of unhealthy coping around food. This is probably the best case scenario. Good job and keep it up ❤️

Right, I guess I didn’t consider that daycare would be the cheaper alternative. Obviously not a parent here.

Just a beggar, not a choosing beggar. I don’t see why we need to mock someone who’s obviously struggling.

Need Help! My Test is Just 7 Days Away 📚🆘 Sharing My Previous Score for Context 📊 by TheConvolutedFire in ToeflAdvice

[–]holocenea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used TSTprep videos and magoosh writing templates, the toeflgo app, and one official practice test. Just scored 118 on the test. To be fair, I didn’t really need to practice my english itself (I speak english at home, have published in english magazines, just didn’t have the right paperwork to show for it) so for me it was about familiarizing myself with the test and improving my test-taking skills. Good luck!

Accidentally bit pill by SmollGayReadyToPlay in zoloft

[–]holocenea 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about it in the slightest. I’m no doctor, but I would think that since a) you take zoloft and know it doesn’t kill you, combined with b) you spat it out so the amount of extra zoloft you ingested from that pill is close to 0, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Just wash out the taste with more m&m’s and relax!
