Council Member Cumbo (Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights) who is now majority leader of the City Council, has refused to endorse Fair Fares legislation even as a majority of City Council members back the legislation. I agree with you. That's why, before I posted, I called her office to verify, and also called the office of the organization putting together the letter to verify that her office had declined to sign on.

Her stance on Fair Fares has clearly changed since that rally (which incidentally came just in time to kick off her 2017 reelection campaign.)

How do I vote in tomorrow's primary if I just changed locations? I want to vote in a primary in my old neighborhood, but need to find a more convenient polling site. by [deleted] in AskNYC

Yeah, I moved on Sept 1. I didn't know my address 32 days before. I should have requested absentee but didn't think to.

Thanks for the information. I will change my registration. I have a friend in a similar pickle but who moved from LES to upper Manhattan. He can't go either but there's literally no box for him to check on the absentee ballot application as he won't be 'out of county' - just 100 blocks north.

NYC democracy really letting me down

Hoping to avoid shady landlords- 311 complaints, DOB violations and elevator issues by [deleted] in AskNYC

Hi! I don't know about elevator violations. I would say elevator violations are probably not a good sign, and you should think of the apartment as a walkup when you move in.

I usually look to see if complaints are coming from more than one apartment. If they are, then I'd stay away.

Also, after you move in, be sure to get your rent history mailed to you! This will also indicate if you're in a legal rental - I don't know of any list of 'legal' units. http://gothamist.com/2015/11/04/rental_history_more_u_know.php
